Quickbeam - Quickbeam Album Review

One of the benefits of Scotland being a small country is that when it comes to music, the cream quickly rises to the top. That has been witnessed recently from the likes of Admiral Fallow, Frightened Rabbit and Rachel Sermanni. That is now the case with Quickbeam.

Quickbeam - Quickbeam Album Review

Originally the brainchild of Monica Gromeck and Andrew Thomson after bonding over similar tastes in music, the band has now swelled in numbers and has recorded this atmospheric and cinematic self-entitled debut album, the results of which are pretty profound with its sweeping grandeur.

Quickbeam's debut album builds on the EP that the band released in 2012, Seven Hundred Birds, which garnered quite a bit of critical acclaim upon its release. This album sees the band finally fulfill that promise over a full length album.

Quickbeam - Immersed

Glasgow four-piece Quickbeam are soon to release their new download 'Immersed' on April 29th 2013 ahead of their self-titled debut album due out on June 3rd through Comets & Cartwheels.

The video brings a strange metaphor to the song, and questions the idea of time and how people attempt to manipulate and even outrun it. It features a man dragging a clock out of the sea with a rope before changing the hands. It flicks back and forth to an image of singer Monika Gromek singing on the beach as a large group of people walk towards her. They check their fob watches before charging towards the man with the clock who runs, dragging the time-piece with him. He eventually stops and begins smashing the clock face with a bit of driftwood before dropping to his knees. The people chasing him appear not to be after all as they ignore him and carry on running straight past. It's a beautiful but poignant number, with gentle folk pop undertones and a soothing vocal perfect for times of contemplation.

The band; who are vocalist Monika Gromek, guitarist Andrew Thomson, drummer Liam Chapman and cellist Ruth Campbell; are set to launch their wonderful first album at an event at Glasgow's Govanhill Baths on May 31st 2013.
