R Kelly ’s tax debt just keeps on rising. In fact, it’s getting to the point whereby we reckon the ‘Trapped in the Closet’ star doesn’t actually care about how much he owes. You could say he’s really not that interested in Turning Back The Hands of Time.
All joking aside, documents filed in Illinois this week – obtained by TMZ.com – reveal that R. Kelly owes Uncle Sam a further $1,379,695,11 in unpaid taxes for the year 2011. The superstar singer already owes $4,848,072,71 in unpaid taxes for the years 2005 to 2010, bringing his total debut to a hefty $6,227,767,82. We’re not sure exactly what Kelly’s accountant has been doing for the past seven years, though a representative for the singer assured his fans that everything is going to turn out just fine, saying, “He takes this very seriously and is already communicating with the IRS about the payment process to quickly resolve the issue.” Despite his legal woes, the 45-year-old has sold 38.5 million albums and 15 million singles in the U.S alone, making him one of the most successful R&B stars of all time.
His eleventh studio album ‘Write Me Back’ was released to generally positive reviews in June, 2012. Written and produced by Kelly himself, the record incorporates 1970s influences such as Philadelphia Soul.
