Actor Randy Quaid and his wife are facing burglary charges after being arrested for squatting in their former home. The new owners of the house reported to police that Quaid had been living there without permission. On Saturday 18th September 2010, a representative of the property phoned the Santa Barbara County Sherriff's deputy to report that the couple had been staying in the guesthouse illegally, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.
When the authorities arrived at the premises they found 59-year old Quaid and his wife in the guesthouse, insisting that they had owned the property since the 1990s, and reports suggest that $5,000 of damage was said to be discovered. The Quaids were then arrested by police on charges of residential burglary and entering a non-commercial building without consent. The actor's wife, Evi Quaid was also charged with resisting arrest, and bail has been set at $50,000 each.
Randy is the older brother of the actor Dennis Quaid, and has starred in a number of high-profile movies throughout his career, most notably, 'Independence Day', 'Brokeback Mountain', and 'Kingpin'. Quaid was nominated for a Golden Globe, BAFTA and an Academy Award for his role in the 1973 film 'The Last Detail'. However, in recent years, he has become embroiled in a number of legal issues - on September 24th, 2009, Quaid and his wife were arrested in Texas for allegedly defrauding an innkeeper.
