While Travis was recovering from his heart problems, he suffered a stroke on Wednesday night. The professionals at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano were quick to react and Travis went under the knife for an operation to relieve the pressure on his brain. Travis was admitted to a Texas hospital earlier this week. According to NY Daily News, the singer was well until he contracted a viral upper respiratory infection three weeks ago. His condition escalated and caused, what TMZ believe to be, presumptive cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. Travis' doctors believe the infection weakened the heart muscles which led to his heart failure.

A rep for the singer told TMZ that Travis is suffering from complications with his heart that have stemmed from his recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy - a heart condition caused by a viral infection. The rep did not specify exactly what was wrong with Travis, they only disclosed the information that he is in hospital and in a potentially life threatening condition. Prior to his admittance into hospital, Travis was scheduled to perform in Deadwood, South Dakota this coming Wednesday (July 10). Obviously, given his recent condition, he obviously won't be performing that gig anymore.

Not Guilty? Randy Travis Insists On Jury Trial To Clear Assault Charge

Randy Travis

Randy Travis reckons he’s not guilty of assaulting a man in a church parking lot back in August and he’s requested a jury trial. On Friday (December 21, 2012), country singer Travis appeared in a Plano Texas courtroom, LA Times reports, to answer charges of assault. The incident occurred at the end of summer, when Randy allegedly got himself embroiled in an argument with his girlfriend and her estranged husband.

Travis’ attorney, Larry Friedman, insists that Travis was merely acting as a good Samaritan, when two men started harassing his girlfriend, and her 17 year-old daughter. According to Friedman’s version of events, one of the men attacked Travis before the police arrived and the singer had merely been defending himself. However, Travis’s public behaviour record has been far from clean, of late. In February, he was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and he also got himself arrested in the summer for DUI. Oh and he was also charged with retaliation / obstruction, after he allegedly threatened an officer during the arrest process.

A court date has been set for March 11 and Friedman’s doing his best to clean up Randy Travis’ image in the meantime, insisting that he’s off the strong stuff, for a start. “Randy is no longer drinking any alcohol,” Friedman has told Dallas Morning News. “He’s committed to a new fitness regime that includes a strict three-hour workout every day and a new high-protein diet.” We’re not sure that anyone ever got off an assault charge by promising to eat more protein, but we’ll watch to see how this one pans out.

Randy Travis Pleads Not Guilty To Simple Assault Charge

Randy Travis

Singer Randy Travis has pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple assault at a Plano courtroom yesterday (Dec 21).

The Grammy-winning country star is accused of getting caught up in a dispute between his girlfriend Mary Beougher and her estranged husband, whilst outside Prestonwood Baptist Church in Texas this August. All three were arrested on the scene, with Travis taken in on class C assault charges, a misdemeanour.

Travis, who received an increasing amount of bad press in the build up to this particular case, had only one comment to give outside the courtroom yesterday, addressed to his fans. He said: "Don't believe everything you see and hear. Merry Christmas, have a happy and healthy New Year. God bless."

Randy Travis Arrested In Assault Case For Fight At Church, Pleads Not Guilty

Randy Travis

American country singer Randy Travis was arrested over the summer for allegedly having a fight outside a church in Texas. Having appeared in court today (21st Dec.) he has plead not guilty after asking for a jury trial at the court date in Plano, Texas.

The original scuffle allegedly came amount as part of a family dispute in a church carpark back in August, according to TMZ. According TMZ Larry Friedman, Travis' lawyer, told them that the fight was due to Travis' fiancée arguing with her estranged husband. Apparently, the singer came "to the rescue", but was not responsible. However, according to Dallas Morning News Friedman has changed the story to Travis being a 'good samaritan', as he defended a woman and her daughter from two men, explaining: "He intervened in an assault by two men who were beating two women, one of whom was a minor. When he intervened, one of those two attackers attacked Randy, and he defended himself."

"Randy is no longer drinking any alcohol," Friedman added to Dallas Morning News. "He's committed to a new fitness regimen that includes a strict three-hour workout every day and a new high-protein diet." Which is good news considering two prior arrests involving alcohol. The case will head to court in March where there'll be a hearing with a jury.
