Travis has also begun physiotherapy and is strengthening by the day. The staff at the hospital reported that he will stay at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano for two more weeks, until his recovery is nearly finished, after which time he will be transferred into a specialised facility in order to undergo intense physical therapy. According to his doctors, it will take months for Travis to fully recover from the stroke, however at this point the signs are all good. The hospital professionals also confirmed that it was, in fact, scarring of the heart, which led to the series of unfortunate events and Travis’ eventual stroke. The singer isn’t even in the typically defined stroke risk group, which includes people over 65, according to the American Stroke Association. The singer is 54, however there were clearly a lot of complicating factors in his case.

Randy Travis Suffers Stroke, Family Requests 'Prayers And Support'

Randy Travis Grammy Awards

The ailing country music star Randy Travis suffered a stroke while undergoing surgery for congestive heart failure at a Texas hospital late on Wednesday (July 10, 2013). His publicist said Travis suffered the stroke while being treated for the heart condition caused by a viral respiratory infection that landed him in hospital three weeks ago. It is understood surgeons were trying to relive pressure on Travis' brain.

"His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support," Webster said in a news release, circulated by the New York Daily News. Prior to the stroke, doctors said Travis was showing signs of improvement though he remains in a critical condition.

The 54-year-old, one of the best loved country stars in American, was involved in a number of embarrassing drunken incidents earlier this year including being found inebriated after the Super Bowl. He developed a viral upper respiratory infection three weeks ago, which weakened the heart muscle, leading to heart failure.

Randy Travis Still Hospitalised In "Critical Condition" Due To Heart Problems

Randy Travis George Jones

US country singer Randy Travis currently lies in a "critical condition" after being admitted to a Dallas hospital on Sunday, according to the Associated Press. 54 year-old Travis is said be being treated for viral cardiomyopathy, which is a condition that prevents the heart contracting - therefore pumping blood - as efficiently as it should. The serious condition, in Travis' case a viral one, can lead to heart failure yet can be treated with medication, surgically implanted devices, or a full heart transplant. It is not known why or where Travis came into contact with the virus but his body's defences could have been weakened by the tiring string of touring he has undertaken recently, having performed at several high-profile occasions including the funeral of 'White Lightning' singer/songwriter George Jones and Country Music Association Festival's nightly concert series.

The North Carolina-born country singer had also recently set about straightening his reputation after several alcohol-related public incidents that the 'Three Wooden Crosses' singer would rather put behind him. As reported by CBS News, Travis was arrested for public intoxication in January 2012 after police responded to reports of a suspicious car parked outside a Baptist church, with Travis found inside smelling of alcohol with an open bottle of wine in his possession. He was detained for four hours and later apologised for his actions, saying he's been celebrating the Super Bowl. However, in August of the same year, Travis was found lying drunk and naked on a remote stretch of Texan road after losing control of his Pontiac Trans Am. He resisted police's intervention and also reportedly threatened "to shoot and kill the troopers working the case," thus receiving two years probation, a $2,000 fine and a 180-day suspended jail sentence.

Country Star Randy Travis In Critical State After Contracting Virus

Randy Travis George Jones

American country star Randy Travis is in a critical condition in hospital with a heart condition thought to be caused by a virus. The singer-songwriter - who has won several Grammys and Country Music Association awards - spent the night in a Dallas hospital, his publicist told the BBC.

The 54-year-old has struggled with health and legal problems in recent years, pleading guilty to drink-driving in January after being found drunk and naked following a car crash in Texas. However, Travis has made several high-profile appearances since then, including a performance at the funeral of fellow country star George Jones in May.

In June, he performed a well-attended concert in Nashville and told fans he had finished recording an album of country classics.

Randy Travis Arrested, Pleads Guilty To Drunk Driving

Randy Travis

Not a good week foe Randy Travis; the country music star crashed his Pontiac Trans Am, fully naked, we might add, before getting arrested. He has now pleaded guilty and been given probation, Fox News reports.

The confines of his probationary period mean a 180-day suspended jail sentence, 24 months of probation and a $2,000 fine. He was also ordered to spend at least 30 days at an alcohol treatment facility, complete 100 hours of community service and have an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he operates while on probation. Ouch. He probably got off lightly, though, as the misdemeanor was punishable by up to two years in jail and a $4,000 fine. He was found in his birthday suit at the scene with a blood alcohol level of more than 0.15, investigators said. The legal limit for driving is 0.08.

Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown said Travis' punishment is appropriate and "considerably more than is typically received on a DWI case."

Randy Travis Charged With DUI

Randy Travis

With the string of run-ins with the law over the course of last year, it was only a matter of time before country singer Randy Travis faced the music and the hammer of the judge's gavel.

The Grammy nominated singer was in court on Wednesday (Jan 9) for his DUI hearing - he was charged after being found driving while intoxicated in the town of Tioga, Texas, near his home on August 7. He was also accused of threatening to shoot and kill the state troopers who arrested him as he was being removed from the scen and taken to jail, Grayson County prosecutors said.

In a statement released the day after the hearing, it was revealed that Travis had consumed nearly twice the legal drinking limit in Texas, with blood alcohol level of more than 0.15 percent (the legal limit is 0.08). Should Travis be convicted in the follow-up hearing, he will face up to two years in jail and a $4,000 fine. He has yet to be charged for the comments made to the officers.

Country Singer Randy Travis Charged With Assault

Randy Travis

Country singer Randy Travis has been charged with assault after an incident that occurred in a Dallas church parking lot in August.

The singer has pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Peter Shulte, has stated that Travis was actually playing the good Samaritan at the time, Reuters reports. Shulte claims that his client is “absolutely not guilty” of the crime he’s being charged with. According to the police report on the case, the assault occurred when the 53-year-old singer intervened in a conflict between a woman he was with and her estranged husband. Shulte was quoted as saying: “"He was actually being a good Samaritan at the time, stepping in to save two women from being assaulted”

Travis has been in trouble with the law before. Earlier in August, he was arrested for drunk driving, but he has reportedly been on the straight and narrow since then. At the time of the most recent offence the Grammy winner was reportedly protecting the woman and his daughter from being harassed by a couple of unknown men.
