Randy Travis was rushed to a Texas hospital this Sunday (July 7) suffering from severe heart problems, with a spokesperson for the singer revealing that he was in a 'critical condition' at the time. Now, his family have disclosed the information that the Grammy winner has undergone heart surgery and is currently recovering from his procedure in his Texan hospital suite.

"We have been told he has had surgery," Randy's sister-in-law, Teresa Traywick, told People magazine. "Our prayers are going out to him because my husband just had a heart attack last year, so it is in their family."

The 54-year-old is suffering from viral cardiomyopathy, a rep for the singer revealed, an infection that causes the heart muscles to weaken and break down. Teresa went on to say, "Their mother passed away at an early age with her heart, so it is like these boys are following right in their footsteps. My prayers are with them. That's all I can say right now."

This is a sad and unfortunate turn for Travis, who looked as though he was finally on the mend following a well-publicised, alcohol-influenced break-down. After a hard-fought battle with the bottle, it looked as though his life was finally getting back on track and returning to his glory days. Travis is a five-time Grammy winner and had a string of hits in the country charts for a number of decades. We wish him a speedy recovery and all the best for his family in this difficult time.
