Real Estate, 19th February, Brudenell Social Club
It's a chilly, crisp February afternoon in Leeds with a high and cloudless sky. Summer seems very far away on days like this, but a small reminder of it wafts from out of the front doors of the Brudenell Social Club, as New Jersey's Real Estate sound check with the winsome and lovely 'Green Aisles.' This is the second track from their acclaimed second album Days, which has lapped their previous success by some measure, owing no small debt to its lead single 'It's Real.'
Starting as a project between a group of friends one summer who found themselves returned to their hometown after college, Real Estate's eponymous first album was a dreamy exploration of the neighbourhoods of their youth. Their success was gradual and modest in the grand scheme of things, but it seemed the potential was there for them to pull something genre defining out of the bag, which they did with the arrival of Days, an album dazzling in its classic simplicity.
Contactmusic.com sat down with Martin Courtney (lead vocals/guitarist) and Matthew Mondanile (guitarist) to talk about the inception of Days and their life together on tour. They were nice, unassuming young men, perhaps a little more unspoiled than you'd expect them to be following their success. Here's what they had to say.
