Isle of Wight Festival 2014 Preview

With just hours until thousands of people flock to Portsmouth and Southampton for their annual ferry trip to the Isle of Wight Festival, it's time to look ahead to the first big event in the summer festival calendar.

Isle of Wight Festival 2014 Preview

Twelve years since the festival was resurrected, organiser John Giddings has steered Isle of Wight from strength to strength. With around 60,000 punters travelling to the Island, it's not just Seaclose Park that's transformed for the weekend, there's a real community spirit that's evident as buses wind their way towards the festival site. Past years have seen a surprise appearance from Kanye West for Jay-Z's headline set, rock royalty like Jagger, McCartney and Neil Young take to the main stage, and bands such as the Foo Fighters casually chatting to fans on the car ferry. This year looks like it will live up to the festival's reputation without a repeat of 2012's well-publicised mud bath. Although there's perhaps not many surprises on the line-up, there's still plenty to look forward to.

The top twelve to watch from June 12:
Boy George PerformingBoy GeorgeIf you're arriving early, the former Culture Club front man is headlining the Thursday night festivities. But far from a nostalgia act, George is touring his first album of original material in 18 years. He's embraced DJ culture and is likely to put on an impressive show whether he's behind the turntable or the microphone.

Lookalikes Will Ferrell And Chad Smith Settle The Score With An Epic 'Tonight Show' Drum Off

Will Ferrell Red Hot Chili Peppers

The drum battle of the century has finally happened as Will Ferrell took on the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith during Thursday’s ‘Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon’. Whilst Chad might have been the obvious winner it turns out Ferrell had some special guests waiting to ensure the funnyman was triumphant.

Will FerrellWill Ferrell or Chad Smith?

The Smith vs Ferrell battle all started earlier this year during Ferrell’s Reddit AMA when a fan noted the comedian’s resemblance to Smith. Ferrell agreed saying, "It has been acknowledged many times that myself and Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, share a resemblance to each other.” He then continued. "A lot of people think that it's me playing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that would be an insult to Chad Smith. The truth of the matter is there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith.” However later he posted a video thanking fans for the AMA session and saying “It was great to finally clear up the fact that I am Chad Smith."

Red Hot Chili Peppers And 8 Of The Funniest Lip-Syncs, Ever

Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Red Hot Chili Peppers' performance alongside Bruno Mars at Sunday’s Superbowl put the practice of ‘miming’ or ‘lip-syncing’ back into the public consciousness. Though it's no secret that from time to time our favourite artists can stretch the meaning of performing 'live', some are able to pull it off a little better than others. So from those who managed to laugh off the mime to others who simple fell flat, here are some of the most memorable incidents of miming in TV history.

In his blog post explaining their Superbowl performance, RHCP's bassist Flea referenced an incident in the late 1980s when they were asked to mime on British TV show Top of the Pops. Well, asking bands to mime was common practice for the BBC chart show, but one band who decided to have fun with the concept was Nirvana. The band decided that instead of co-operating they would mock the concept by not even pretending to play their instruments. Instead Dave Grohl had a dance on the drums whilst Kurt Cobain gave an unrecognisable vocal performance, proving miming doesn't always have to lead to embarrassment.

Cordless Rockers Red Hot Chilli Peppers Caught Out With Super Bowl Set

Red Hot Chili Peppers Bruno Mars Super Bowl

“Hang on a minute, their guitars aren’t plugged in to anything” an eagle-eyed Super Bowl viewer probably said somewhere in America. And he/she was right: while Anthony Kiedis sang alongside main performer Bruno Mars live, the others were just faking it.

Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea Admits To Playing Air Bass In Super Bowl Performance

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Flea has been very honest about the Red Hot Chili Peppers epic performance at this Sunday's (Feb 2nd) Super Bowl halftime show.

The 51 year-old was called out for allegedly faking to play his bass guitar in their live set, with it being clearly visible that his instrument was not plugged into anything.

This was first spotted by Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid, who tweeted, "That guitar is plugged into NOTHING."

Super Bowl Half Time Well And Truly Rocked By Bruno Mars And RHCP

Super Bowl Bruno Mars Red Hot Chili Peppers

Besides a victory for the Seattle Seahawks – and a long overdue one at that – last night’s Super Bowl was also a triumph for Bruno Mars. Mars’ Half Time show with the Red Hot Chili Peppers was full of soul – no gimmicks, just good music. Well, maybe there was one gimmick. Time Magazine reports on the show. Mars’ performance kicked off with a song performed by a children’s choir, which, although it was cute, was undeniably only there for the cute factor. The song quickly segued into a drum solo by the multitalented Bruno himself, which was later taken over by his brother Eric Hernandez (Bruno Mars was originally born Peter Hernandez).

Bruno Mars, Super Bowl Press Conference
Mars refused to give away any details during his Super Bowl press conference last week.

Things got real as the golden jacket and skinny tie came out and Mars stretched out the good ol’ vocal chords with a performance of the eternal crowd pleaser Locked Out Of Heaven. His jumbo band of brass, backup singers and bass put the song across nicely. The synchronized dance to Treasure was just icing on the cake.

While fans wonder whether Bruno MarsSuper Bowl halftime show will live up to Beyonce’s from last year, Mars himself has much more modest goals. He just wants to get people dancing, as he said at a during a live press conference at the Rose Theater in New York City about the Pepsi halftime show. "Whatever happens, happens. I ain't scared if that's what you think."

On album two, Jake has teamed up with one of the most legendary producers in the history of music; Rick Rubin - co-founder of Def Jam records who has worked with a variety of artists from Jay-Z to Metallica. 'That's the great thing about Rick, he's so diverse in what he does', says Jake. 'This year he's done the Jay-Z record and the Kanye West album and Black Sabbath. He's great to work with, he's so chilled out. I fly [to America] tomorrow to go finish off the second record so I can't wait.' Paul McCartney Plays 'Yesterday' With Kronos Quartet At Outside Lands Festival

Sir Paul McCartney Vampire Weekend Red Hot Chili Peppers Willie Nelson

Outside Lands

Paul McCartney fans at the Outside Lands festival were given a real treat on Friday evening (August 9, 2013) with the Beatles legend performing with the string virtuosos, the Kronos Quartet. The quartet are perhaps best known for their work with Tom Waits, David Bowie, Bjork and even the poet Allen Ginsberg, but the strings perfectly complimented McCartney's hit Yesterday - a track usually backed only by the musician's idiosyncratic guitar work, though rarely played live.

Though the former Beatle continues to sell out shows around the globe, he has on occasions been guilty of failing to change up his set - something that he's rectified in the past year or so. At Outside Festival, he played the more obscure Fab Four tracks Lovely Rita and Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite, as well as Yesterday, according to Rolling Stone magazine.

Chilli Pepper's Anthony Kiedis Assaulted By Security Guard Outside Four Season Hotel

Anthony Kiedis Red Hot Chili Peppers Rolling Stones

red hot chilli peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis was made to do some cooling down on Friday (June 21) after he was spotted brawling with a security guard outside the Four Seasons Hotel in Philadelphia. The singer and the hired muscle apparently traded blows with each other after Kiedis was refused entry to the building, and the whole thing was caught on tape.

If you head over to TMZ, you can see the footage of Kiedis as he trades blows with the security personelle, neither one of them backing down as the whole scene gets violent very fast. In the footage, the RHCPs frontman approaches the hotel with a female friend and is blocked from entering by the bouncer. As Kiedis tries to get around him, the security guard flings himself at the singer and the fighting begins.

There was some reason behind the crazy scene however, as it turns out the Rolling Stones were staying in the same hotel as Kiedis and were leaving the hotel when he had arrived. Mistaking Kiedis for a crazed fan, the bouncer did what he thought necessary to warn off any potential threat to the veteran rockers. So everything makes sense right, well, not entirely.

Metallica's Orion Festival Reveals 2013 Line-Up, Including Red Hot Chili Peppers

Metallica Red Hot Chili Peppers Deftones Rise Against

Metallica have revealed the line-up for their second annual Orion Music + More Festival, and as you’d expect from the ageing veterans of heavy metal, it’s one that bristles with more noise and riffs than you can shake a Flying V guitar at.

Over 30 acts have been announced so far for the five stages, with Metallica being joined by the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rise Against, Deftones and Bassnectar for the two day event that takes place in Detroit on June 8th and 9th. “Last year’s Orion Music + More Festival was hands down the highlight of the Metallica calendar. A great time was had by all, especially the band members,” Lars Ulrich said in a press release reported by Classic Rock “The fact that it also resonated with enough of our fans and friends that it warrants another go-around in ’13 is beyond exciting. I can think of no better place than the Motor City, with its rich and diverse history of music, for the second ride on our Orion festival train. Bring it the f— on!”

With the Chilis joining Metallica as headliners, it marks a potentially busy time for their bassist Flea, who has also been involved in Thom Yorke’s Atoms For Peace project. They released their album AMOK today (February 25, 2013) and he’ll be likely joining them on some live dates as well.

The lead singer of rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis, hugs and kisses a woman before he leaves Urth Cafe in Los Angeles. As he is snapped by paparazzi, he clips his motorcycle helmet into place and rides away on the vehicle.

He is looking like he feels much better since he had surgery on his damaged foot which forced him to pull out of their US tour in January 2012. And things just keep getting better for Kiedis as the Red Hot Chili Peppers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in April this year
