Renee Zellweger is ‘stepping back with old friend’ Bridget Jones, the hapless singleton who she last played in 1999’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. But this time things are slightly different. Yes Bridget has matured, but it hasn’t made her love life any less complicated, as the actress told Entertainment Weekly.

Zellweger and her Bridget Jones’ Baby co-stars Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth grace the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly and the mag has given us our first details of the film’s plot.

In Bridget Jones’ Baby we find our heroine now 43 and still single, but pregnant with a baby that either belongs to a handsome billionaire (Patrick Dempsey) or her longtime love Mark Darcy (Colin Firth).

“She's a bit more mature and has moved on, as we all have,” Zellweger told the mag. But even if she has grown up, Bridget will always have a bit of chaos in her life. "I think that's her essence, really," Zellweger adds. ”All of us do things in our personalities that we don't outgrow."

But although it’s been 16 years since we’ve seen Bridget on the big screen, Zellweger thinks the character is just as relevant as ever. "I like that she tells what it's like to be a woman in these really relatable situations," the actress explains. "It's so right to tell a story about Bridget in this stage of her life."
