Filmaker Richard Linklater is apparently planning something of a 'semi-sequel' to the cult hit Dazed and Confused. Linklater has mentioned before that he wants to follow up his 1993 film and in a recent AMA on Reddit, he once again relayed his plans and promised that he could beging work on the film by the end of the year.

During his chat with the online community, he said that he was planning on starting work on a college comedy that might not be directly linked to the original film, but could be connected to the cult classic some how. He said, "Hoping to make it this fall, actually. A college comedy. I feel like mixing it up with a big ensemble."

The major problem facing Linklater right now is that most of the original cast are expected to be unavailable to shoot any kind of sequel, which is why he doesn't want to promise a direct sequel. Milla Jovovich, Jason London and Joey Lauren Adams were among the original stars of the movie, all of whom are currently involved in projects coming out soon. There's also the problem of when the film could be set, with Linklater mentioning that he is planning on setting the film in the early years of college, which given the actor's age now will make things a little difficult to explain.

Linklater was on Reddit to promote his upcoming fil, Before Midnight, the Ethan Hawke-starring romance that hits cinemas May 24 (June 21 elsewhere).
