He's great to work with, he's so chilled out. I fly [to America] tomorrow to go finish off the second record so I can't wait.' He also openly admitted to not knowing who Chad Smith was (he's the Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer!) when Rubin brought him in as a studio musician but expressed regret that he had to leave the project for a RHCP record.

Jay-Z Gets Choked Up Over His Daughter: "We Still Marvel At Her"

Jay Z Rick Rubin Beyonce Knowles Pharrell Williams Timbaland Swizz Beatz

Rapper Jay-Z appears to be holding back tears whilst talking to producer extraordinaire, Rick Rubin, in a behind-the-scenes video of the making of the rapper's new album. A record producer himself, Jay-Z is married to singer Beyoncé with whom he has a child - 1 year-old Blue Ivy who has clearly had a profound effect upon his creative output as a musician.

A Proud Father: Jay Z Has Admitted He Marvels Over His Daughter, Blue.

Speaking without any intro, Jay-Z (real name, Shaun Carter) tells how his past has affected his present: "My pop left when I was young so he didn't teach me how to be a man or how to raise a child or how to treat a woman. So of course, my karma, the two things I need I don't have. And I have a daughter," he says, adding the paranoia he associates with "not being a great dad."

Jay-Z's 'Magna Carter' Free Downloads For Samsung Won't Count In Album Chart

Jay Z Rick Rubin Pharrell Williams Timbaland Swizz Beatz

It looked as though Jay-Z's next album already had the number one spot wrapped up before it was even released, however the powers at the Official UK Chart have decided that if Jay-Z wants a number one album he's going to have to do it the old fashion way; by selling Magna Carta Holy Grail, rather than just giving it away.

The rapper signed a $5 million deal with phone manufacturers Samsung to provide fans with early access to his upcoming album as well as a free download to the rapper/businessman's newest release. Samsung has purchased a million copies of the album that will be distributed amongst a million Samsung smartphone users on July 4th and should the free downloads count in the charts then it will all but guaranteed it a place at No. 1. Only thing is, now that this won't be the case in the UK, will other countries follow suit?

The Official Charts Company said this week: “Music which consumers receive free of charge, either as physical releases or downloads, have never counted towards the Official Charts and this release will be no different. Legitimate purchases of Jay-Z's album will count, however, as usual.”

Jay-Z Announces Plans For New Album At NBA Championship Game

Jay Z Rick Rubin Pharrell Williams Timbaland

It may have seemed that Jay-Z was being relatively quiet in terms of new material recently, but that silence was only disguising his creativity because Hova has actually been in the studio putting together a new album and over the weekend, during a NBA championship game, the rapper revealed the details for his next album, and a corresponding website and app to go with it.

If you head over to www.magnacartaholygrail.com, it will tell you that the new album, possibly called Manga Carta Holy Grail, will be a "revolutionary" album that will be released in conjuncture with a new app that give fans the chance to look behind the scenes of the making of the album and the stories that helped make it. The app will be made available to download on June 24 and on July 4 the app will let fans download the album, a full three days before the official release date. And thats not all, because if you fancy treating yourself to a shiny new Samsung Galaxy S III or S4 or the Galaxy Note II, then you'll be given the app for free.

The fact that Jay hasn't called the album JeHova, to go side-by-side with his The Throne cohort Kanye West's Yeezus album that comes out on Tuesday (June 18), may be a let down for some fans, but given the wealth of treats on offer hopefully people wont feel too hard done. As the promo video released by Jay seems to indicate, we wont have a shortage of big-name guests either, with Rick Rubin, Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beats and Timbaland all making an appearance.

Could ‘13’ Be Black Sabbath's First Number One Album In Over 40 Years?

Black Sabbath Ozzy Osbourne Tony Iommi Liam Gallagher Rick Rubin Rage Against The Machine

Black Sabbath are back and it looks like they're back with a bang too, with the metal overlords looking set to score their first number one on the album chart in 43 years. 13 was released at the beginning of this week and it has been slowly creeping up the charts, and it could have a good chance of reaching the coveted spot by the end of the week. The album - the first to feature the (mostly) original lineup of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler (drummer Burt Ward was forced to sit out the recording process because of health reasons) in 35-years - currently sits at the top of the mid-week charts, however it cannot officially claim to be an official number one until the end of the week. With no real threat in the charts to challenge it for the top spot - bar Liam Gallagher’s Beady Eye perhaps - so it looks like the band may be on to recreate the feat their 1970 album Paranoid.

The album was produced by acclaimed Def Jam co-founder Rick Rubin and features Rage Against The Machine’s Brad Wilkes sitting in for Ward, and critics are hailing the album as a return to the doom-laded guitar riffs of the band's classic albums from the 70's. Frontman Osbourne declared his surprise at the album's success earlier today, saying “I can’t believe Black Sabbath may have its first number one album in 43 years.”

The band will continue their world tour in support of the album over the rest of the year, having already played in New Zealand, Australia and parts of Asia. The tour reaches London's O2 Arena in December and will arrive at Houston's Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion on July 25.

Black Sabbath Release New Single 'God Is Dead?' From Album, '13' [Video]

Black Sabbath Rick Rubin Ozzy Osbourne Tony Iommi

Showing the blackest of their hearts - now presumably kept pulsing with pacemakers - Black Sabbath have released first single from  new album 13 : 'God Is Dead?' with an accompanying video that depicts swirling green galaxies, blood bathed streets and eerily fuzzy TV screens.

At first listen, Black Sabbath's brand new single 'God Is Dead?' has all the tell-tale signs of Rick Rubin's slick production; a man whose capable hands are famed for reinvigorating scores of rock bands, such as ZZ Top.

The track settles into clonging, downbeat death-knell guitars and decidedly evil lyrics from Ozzy, with some "novel" rhyming ("out of the gloom I rise up from my tomb into impending doom"), which forms the first 6 minutes of their 9 minute epic, before picking up pace and volume, eventually breaking out climatically into pure metal heaven as Ozzy cries out "God Is Dead!" over Geezer's rolling drumbeat thumps and a classic heavy riffage that will bring tears of joy to fans.

Slayer's Jeff Hanneman Dead At 49: Guitarist Dies Of Liver Failure

Slayer Rick Rubin MEGADETH

Slayer guitarist and songwriter Jeff Hanneman is dead at 49 after suffering liver failure. The revered musician died on Thursday (May 2, 2013) at the Hemet Valley Medical Center near his home in South California's Inland Empire area, according to Billboard.com. Slayer made the news public, announcing their devastation at the loss of their band-mate and brother. Tributes began pouring in immediately, with MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine tweeting, "Tonight one less star will be shining and sadly, the stage got just a little bit darker. Jeff Hanneman 1964-2013."

"RIP TO A TITAN OF METAL," said Disturbed/Device frontman David Draiman, while drummer Mike Portnoy said, "WOW...I'm in shock...RIP Jeff Hanneman." The news hit the metal world harder given that most of the luminaries of the genre were attending the Annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards show at Club Nokia when news began filtering through. A spokesperson for "Blood" producer Rick Rubin told Billboard he was "very sad" and "shocked" by the death.

It had been a rough couple of years for Hanneman who ceased touring in early 2011 when he contracted necrotizing fasciitis, reportedly from a spider bite. The disease literally eats away at the flesh from deep layers of skin and tissues. Exodus musician Gary Holt stood in for Hanneman from 2011 while Pat O'Brien joined later in the year. Throughout the ordeal, Hanneman's Slayer band-mates expressed optimism that he would one day return to the group full-time.

35 Years Later Black Sabbath Are Back In The Studio

Black Sabbath Ozzy Osbourne Rick Rubin

Black Sabbath have revealed that they are recording their first album together with original members for the first time since 1978's Never Say Die, with the album set to be titled 13.

Three of the original four members - Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler - have been in the studio recording the long awaited album for the past few months, enlisting the help of Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk on drums to stand in for Bill Ward. Unfortunately health problems have plagued Ward and as such, with a heavy heart, the band have had to continue without him. Iommi assessed the situation with Ward in November last year, telling Blaring Out magazine: "We'll always have a heart for Bill, but I think it's gone past that now, because it's gone on so long I don't see that happening at the moment."

In the interview, Iommi also revealed that the album will be 15 tacks long and it has also been revealed that the album was produced by the legendary Rick Rubin, who has worked with such artists as System of a Down, Jay Z, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Metallica and Johnny Cash. On top of this, the band have also announced a number of tour dates for the near future, in Australia, New Zealand and Japan's Ozzfest, and are expected to extend these dates as well as perform on the festival circuit.

Will ‘Ride’ Change Our Minds About Lana Del Rey?

Lana Del Rey Rick Rubin

Lana Del Rey’s latest single ‘Ride,’ has made its way online. The track is taken from the ‘deluxe’ edition of her debut album, ‘Born To Die.’ Never one to be deterred by constant criticism, Lana is pushing her album once more and this time, there are eight new tracks for fans to listen to. Since she hit the big time with her track ‘Video Games’ late last year, Lana Del Rey has divided opinion across the globe. Whilst many are in awe of her David Lynch-esque imagery and dusky vocals, others have lashed out at her awkward live performances and dismissed the hype surrounding her as unfounded.

Just a few lines in and ‘Ride’ contains some trademark Lana Del Rey lyrics. Think what you like about her; the fact that she even has a ‘trademark’ so early into her career is probably a sign that we haven’t seen the last of her just yet. ‘Born To Die’ – The Paradise Edition will be released on November 23, 2012. The original track-listing remains intact but eight bonus tracks will be added to the CD and vinyl versions of the album. A special box set will also include a remix album and DVD, according to Billboard.com

As for the song itself, ‘Ride’ – which was written by Lana Del Rey and Justin Parker and produced by Rick Rubin – feels more accomplished than some of her previous efforts and makes the most of her voice, rather than showing up its flaws. All that doe-eyed “you can be my full-time daddy / baby” shtick is going to start getting a little tired pretty soon, though, we reckon.

Fade To Black Review

OK
In 2003, Brooklyn rapper Jay-Z (a.k.a. Shawn Carter) called it quits after an eight-year career. Compared to most rap artists, he ruled the charts and the airwaves for an eternity. His final album, "The Black Album" (2003) was meant to be a farewell to his fans, and now this feature film documents his final concert, a huge, sold-out affair in Madison Square Garden.

"Fade to Black" presents the show itself -- with guest appearances by Beyonce (Jay-Z's highly publicized girlfriend), Mary J. Blige, Ghostface Killah (from the Wu-Tang Clan) and Missy Elliot -- as well as behind-the-scenes footage during the making of the album.
