Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton star as Moses and Rhamses in director Ridley Scott's big budget interpretation of the Exodus Bible story. The film isn't out until December but check out the trailer for 'Exodus: Gods and Kings'.
Director Ridley Scott has dealt with some epic stories whether it's the might of the Roman Empire and the obsession with gladiators, slavering murderous aliens in space or legends of British folklore. But now the 76-year-old director is tackling the Bible and is adapting the story of Moses for the big screen in Exodus: Gods and Kings.

Ridley Scott's interpretation of the Exodus story, written by Steven Zaillian (American Gangster), will follow Moses' journey to lead the Israelites from Egypt. There appears to be a great deal more chariot racing than one would expect and some impressive costumes. Of course, eyeliner is smeared liberally around the eyes of every cast member. Special effects have been made great use of whether the ten plagues are concerned and the trailer shows dramatic rivers of blood and swarms of locusts descending on the palaces of Egypt.

In case you were wondering or simply need to brush up on the Bible, baby Moses was discovered in a basket floating down the River Nile having been sent away by his mother after an unnamed Pharaoh demanded all first born sons be killed. Fortunately, as the story goes, Moses was not eaten by crocodiles and was instead found by the daughter of the Egyptian Pharaoh. Moses was brought up as a Prince alongside her son Rhamses.

Unfortunately, Moses' conscience got the better of him when he saw a slave being beaten and ran off to become a shepherd (as you do). A burning bush, which turned out to be God, told Moses to return to Egypt and lead the Israelites out of slavery. Moses asked his former adopted brother and now Pharaoh Rhamses to free the slaves but he refused and so God brought down ten plagues including locusts, disease and raining blood. Finally the Pharaoh relented and ordered the Israelites to leave.
Moses leads his people to the edge of the Red Sea but the Pharaoh changed his mind and pursued them. As the story goes, Moses with the help of God parted the Red Sea and led his people into the desert for 40 years.
Christian Bale, Aaron Paul and Ben Kingsley star in Ridley Scott's latest film.
The film boasts an all star cast including Christian Bale (The Dark Knight) as Moses and Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby) as Rhamses. Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) plays Joshua, Moses' closest advisor and John Turturro (God's Pocket) features as Seti. British actor Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3) also stars alongside fellow Brit Indira Varma (Game of Thrones) as Miriam, Rhamses' mother.

Exodus: Gods and Kings sees Scott reunite with Sigourney Weaver who starred in Alien, which he directed in 1979. Weaver has since starred in one of Scott's movies in 1492: Conquest of Paradise in 1992 but have not worked together since. The scriptwriter, Zallian, is also reuniting with Scott for the third time as they have previously worked on Hannibal (2001) and American Gangster (2007) together.
Exodus: Gods and Kings is released in US cinemas on 12th December UK cinemas on 26th December 2016.
