Rihanna has cancelled two dates on her upcoming UK tour as well as postponing nine shows in America. The singer was due to begin her Anti tour in the US at the end of the month, but it will now start on on March 12th in Jacksonville, Florida.

Rihanna will no longer perform at Sunderland's Stadium of Light on June 16 and Cardiff's Principality Stadium on June 18. Fans were notified of the Sunderland cancellation by email this morning.

In a statement Sunderland's AFC's commercial director Gary Hutchinson said: "Unfortunately this is something that can happen with major tours and naturally we are sorry for those concert-goers who were looking forward to the show.”

Fans in Cardiff have been offered a full refund or the opportunity to swap for an alternative city. Another UK show, at Coventry's Rioch Arena has been rescheduled from June 14 to June 25. Over in the US, nine shows which were due to take place later this month have been postponed.

Shows in San Diego, Houston, Austin, Dallas, Atlanta, Phoenix, New Orleans, Oakland, and San Jose will all now take place in May. According to Billboard, the rescheduling is due to "production delays”.

The news comes just days after Rihanna was forced to pull out of this year’s Grammy awards due to illness. A spokesperson for the 27-year-old said at the time: "Based on Rihanna's examination, after Grammy rehearsal today, Rihanna's doctor put her on vocal rest for 48-hours because she was at risk of haemorrhaging her vocal chords.”
