Rihanna had accidentally fuelled the fire by liking a fan comment hinting that the Grammys were unfairly favouring Beyonce.
Rihanna has strongly denied that she’s feuding with fellow pop megastar Beyonce, having accidentally fuelled rumours that the two had fallen out over Grammy nominations.
28 year old RiRi was bestowed with eight nominations for the 2017 Grammy Awards earlier this week, while Beyonce received nine. Nothing controversial there, you might think, as their respective albums ANTI and Lemonade both sold in their millions and received great reviews.
However, some fans have speculated that there might be trouble between the pair as Beyonce’s album and single ‘Formation’ both received nods for Album and Song of the Year, while Rihanna’s work did not, with ‘Work’ only getting picked for Record of the Year (which rewards engineers and producers as well as the artist).
Rihanna is not feuding with Beyonce
Rihanna had inadvertently stoked this when she liked a photo with a controversial caption on a fan Instagram account just after the nominations were announced on Tuesday (December 6th).
“Congrats and all to @badgalriri and all for her 8 Grammy nods but tbh f*** them because they snubbed her for Song of the Year and Album of the Year. I think they didn't want her tied or passing someone else *cough cough*” the post read, followed by a tell-tale lemon emoji, signifying Beyonce’s album.

The next day, the Barbadian-born singer took action to explain herself, issuing an additional comment. “I never actually read your caption, thought the pic was funny and moved right along!” she wrote.
“Til I seen it pop up over and over! I'm petty af, yes. But this is just unnecessary! I wish y'all would drop this topic and see things from the bigger picture! We don't need to be putting black women against each other! We deserve to be celebrated, and the Grammy Academy agrees!”
The 59th Grammy Awards will be broadcast on CBS from the Los Angeles Staples Center on February 12th.
