British pop star Rita Ora has embarrassingly tried to distance herself from a Twitter mishap regarding new material. She’s deleted a tweet that she had sent out on Friday promising her four million followers a new song that would be released on Monday if the message got retweeted 100,000 times.

In the event, the PR stunt completely backfired, with fewer than 2,000 of her fans bothering to actually do so. That’s less than 0.05% of her fanbase. Oh dear. Later on in the day, she got rid of the message.

It’s certainly not what the 23 year old star would have wanted in the run up to her appearance as the new judge on the fourth season of ‘The Voice’. The BBC show has been flagging in the ratings in the recent past, and bosses have appointed her in place of the departing Kylie Minogue in an attempt to connect with a younger audience.

Later in the day, while filming for the show, she took a break to post a selfie of her wearing a massive foam wig, writing 'Morning!!! Happy Halloween! Bring costume to work day! #thevoiceuk.'

Rita’s new boyfriend Ricky Hill, who she’s been dating since breaking up with mega-star DJ Calvin Harris back in June, was also generating news headlines this week. At famed photographer Mario Testino’s 60th birthday party on Wednesday night, Ricky was seen throwing a punch at a fellow party-goer.

In spite of this, Rita has had a hugely successful start to her singing career. To recap, she scored two Number 1 singles in the UK from her first album Ora in 2012, and back in April she scored a third with ‘I Will Never Let You Down’ from her as yet unreleased second album. That song was written with her ex-boyfriend Harris.
