Last month ‘Eastenders’ stars Samantha Womack and Rita Simons confirmed they would be leaving the BBC soap after 10 years playing sisters Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell. Fans had hoped that the twosome would be saying a ‘see you later’ rather than a ‘goodbye forever’, but according to The Sun, the Mitchell sisters are set to be gone for good.

A source told the newspaper that the sisters are to die in an explosive storyline during the soap’s New Year’s Eve special. The decision is said to have infuriated the cast, who are complaining that they were not consulted.
Both Mitchell sisters will bow out of the soap in an explosive storyline next year.
Rita Simons has announced she’s also departing ‘Eastenders’, alongside on-screen sister Samantha Womack. Simons has played Roxy Mitchell on Albert Square since she was introduced with sister Ronnie 2007 and the pair are set to go out with a bang.

A BBC spokesperson told MailOnline: “We can confirm that Rita Simons will be leaving EastEnders. Having joined the show in 2007, Rita immediately won the hearts of the audience in the role of Roxy Mitchell and between her and Samantha Womack they created one of the most iconic duos EastEnders has ever seen."
