Phil Everly sadly passed away on Friday, 3 January, leaving the entertainment world in shock at the sudden and unexpected passing of one half of the music world's most celebrated and influential musical duos. Phil died at Providence St. Joseph Medical Centre in Burbank, California, earlier this week, with his death being confirmed via a hospital spokesperson.

The reason behind his death was initially witheld from the press, however his wife, Patti, told the Los Angeles Times that he died from complications owing to lung disease, blaming a lifetime of cigarette smoking on his death.

This comes just a year after Homeland achieved the impressive feat of winning Best Drama Series, Best Male Actor and Best Female Actor all in one night, although this does mark the second year in a row that the 2007-2009 winner Mad Men has not appeared in the Best Drama category.

Killing Kennedy is the National Geographic Channel's summarised view of the assassination of former president John F. Kennedy, a view that Director Oliver Stones thinks is skewed and hides a clear truth. The Rob Lowe-starring docu-drama will air on the network later this month, prior to the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination, and when it does, Stone won't be tuning in.

In a recent discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, the acclaimed moviemaker gave some of his own views on the death of the iconic president, admitting that he, like many others, believes that there is more to his assassination that a disturbed and disgruntled lone gunman named Lee Harvey Oswald. Based on the book co-written by conservative Fox News anchor Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard, Stone conceded that their view on the assassination opens up more questions than it does answer them.

The 50th anniversary of the tragic assassination of John F. Kennedy will take place later this month and to mark the occasion there will be no shortage of programmes dedicated to the late president going to air over the course of the month. One of them, the National Geographic Channel's Killing Kennedy, stars Rob Lowe in the title role, a role that was no easy task preparing for.

Lowe stars along with Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays his wife Jacqueline Kennedy, and Will Rothhaar as Lee Harvey Oswald. Based on Fox News host Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard's book by the same name, the one-off show will chronicle the events that eventually culminated with the assassination of the United State's 35th president on 22 November, 1963.

Mixing archive footage with recreated scenes, the show will look to understand the assassination and its aftermath better. But taking on such an icon role was no walk in the park for Lowe, as he explained to USA Today, stating that this kind of role is even "more difficult when you play an icon that people remember as well as they do Kennedy and are emotionally invested in his memory as they are in Kennedy."

Zac Efron managed to get away with quietly slipping into rehab, completing his stint and re-entering normal society all without any serious news hitting the gossip headlines. Now, five months later the news has emerged that the 25 year-old actor did go to rehab in April to battle a stubborn cocaine addiction, according to TMZ.

Apparently, Efron's drug problem began to noticeably spiral out of control after his absense from several days of filming Seth Rogen's comedy Neighbors earlier this year. A film source speaking to TMZ said "It was common knowledge he was struggling with cocaine."

Rashida Jones will leave her role as Ann Perkins on NBC's ever popular Parks & Recreation at the halfway point in the upcoming sixth season, but rather than go straight to the unemployment office and apply for benefits, Rashida already has her next job lined up. Rashida is teaming up with her sister, Kidada Jones, to develop the new comedy-drama series The Revengers for The CW; an hour-long, New York-set revenge-based sitcom.

Rashida already has her first post-Parks & Rec jobs lined up

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first broke the story, Rashida is working with her Celeste & Jesse Forever collaborator Will McCormack, Up In The Air producer Daniel Dubiecki, Lara Alameddine and Prep School Confidential author Kara Taylor to serve as the show's executive producers, with Taylor also penning the first script for the show. Kidada will produce the show, a first for the model/fashion designer. Rashida and McCormack will also work together for the upcoming Fox comedy series Stuck.

Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones will be leaving NBC's comedy Parks and Recreation in the middle of the sixth episode. The serie's creator, Mike Schur, released a statement on Wednesday (31st July) confirming actors would be leaving and that they would be missed.

Parks and Recreation also features Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Audrey Plaza, Paul Schneider and Chris Platt.

Michael Douglas as Liberace in Behind The Candelabra

Steven Soderbergh lands in sunny Cannes this week with his HBO movie Behind the Candelabra, a biopic of the flamboyant pianist Liberace, played by Michael Douglas. The American entertainer's personal life was embroiled in scandal with rumors of homosexuality which he always vehemently denied - this despite his close relationship with a young chauffeur named Scott, 39-years his junior.

Scott, played by Matt Damon, becomes an important figure in the pianist's life and he is even persuaded to under facial surgery by the pianist. It led to a desperate struggle with drugs and various fiery arguments between the pair. "I didn't want to do a biopic in the traditional sense. I wanted to go narrow and deep," Soderbergh told the Los Angeles Times of the movie, "It's Alice going down the rabbit hole. That's a much more elegant way to get into Liberace's life." On his love scenes with Damon, Michael Douglas told the New York Magazine, "Once you get that first kiss in, you are comfortable.Matt and I didn't rehearse the love scenes. We said, 'Well - we've read the script, haven't we?"
