Robert Downey Jr, Rebecca Hall and Stanley Tucci were among the high profile attendees at the Iron Man 3 premiere in London on Thursday (April 18, 2013). After an initial postponement following the death of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, the premiere went ahead and was a typically star-studded affair. Of course, most of the crowd had turned out to catch a glimpse of Downey Jr, the Hollywood star who reprises his role as Tony Stark for the third time in the latest movie. Speaking to Sky News at the premiere, the actor said he was unsure if he will play the role again. "Right now the future is uncertain, but I think it's very important that we end this first Marvel phase in a way that is definitive and has people asking questions," he said.

Downey's contract is up with Marvel, though it would be unthinkable for the studio to let him go without a fight. His co-star Don Cheadle, who plays War Machine, said he would do his best to persuade the actor to don the metallic suit again. "I'm going to threaten him that I'll let all his secrets out and then maybe we'll see if he can come back!" he joked.

Downey Jr is thought to have taken home over $50 million from the franchise thanks to a profit-sharing deal he struck with Marvel and Disney. On the success of the superhero movies, he told reporters that good storylines and a sense of humour were the key, "When the first one came out people said they appreciated how witty it was and so we've tried to keep up that tradition." Co-star Sir Ben Kingsley was full of praise for how Downey Jr plays the character, "Robert's character always allows himself to become a little bit vulnerable- there's the iron suit and then what's inside that suit. It's a very interesting layer to add," he said.

Elsewhere at the glittering premiere in Leicester Square, British actress Rebecca Hall pretty much stole the show in a revealing Lanvin jumpsuit, despite the harsh winds and blustery weather in the capital. The actress, now one of the most in-demand in Hollywood, is currently dating Skyfall director Sam Mendes, though the filmmaker was not in attendance. Hall was joined by Hollywood director Shane Black and veteran Stanley Tucci, while other less recognizable faces on the red-carpet included Sarah Jane-Crawford, Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta and, err, Kye Sones from X-Factor.
