The alternate Iron Man 3 trailer hints a darker direction for Tony Stark.
"I build neat stuff, I've got a great girl, and occasionally save the world. So why can't I sleep?" asks Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark in the opening sequence of the new Iron Man 3 trailer. The businessman and superhero promises "good, old-fashioned revenge," in the third movie in the franchise, which sees Stark do battle with Ben Kingsley's evil Mandarin. At one point in the new promo, the villain forebodingly asks Iron Man "Do you want an empty life, or a meaningful death?"
We also get our first real look at Stark's girlfriend Virginia 'Pepper' Potts, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, who appears to be in danger. We wonder who'll come to her rescue? It's been long assumed that the third instalment of the Marvel franchise will be the darkest yet, and the latest trailer appears to confirm that. The official synopsis reads, "Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds..When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle."
The movie sees a slight change of tact in terms of crew, with 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' director Shane Black behind the camera, and Jon Favreau - who directed the first two films - serving as executive producer. Only time will tell whether the decision works in the franchise's favour, though we can't see this one being any short of hugely successful.
