Robert Downey Jr. Would Ask Matthew Broderick's Permission To See Ex Sarah Jessica Parker

Whilst Howard Stern - and the rest of us - may have forgotten Robert Downey Jr. went out with Sarah Jessica Parker, Downey still holds a special place in his heart for the Sex and the City actress.

Robert Downey Jr. dated Sarah Jessica Parker for 7 years.

Downey Jr. was on The Howard Stern Show on Tuesday (7th October) and the topic turned to Parker. Downey Jr. and Parker dated 1984 and 1991 but separated, as E! reports, because of Downey Jr.'s substance abuse issues. He still evidently thinks of his former flame fondly and explained that their relationship was "a big deal".

"I've never been the kind of person to acknowledge what's going on with me at the time, and I would try to make light of it, but sure, when you're with someone for seven years, 18 to our mid-20s, it's kind of a big deal," 49-year-old Downey told Stern in the interview.

Stern asked if Downey ever met up with Parker and Downey stated he would attempt to see is former girlfriend whilst he was in New York. Downey said "I'll make a point of trying to see her [Parker] while I'm here." He added "I just want to check in for a few minutes."

Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker have been married since 1997.

But that's not to say Downey would be willing to step on Matthew Broderick's toes. He joked to stern he'd even ask Broderick's permission to see his wife! Downey further suggested that, if he and Parker go out for dinner, Broderick and his own wife join them. When Stern continued to press the matter, completely ignoring Downey's attempts to move the conversation alone, the Iron Man actor suggested Stern also tag along to act as "mediator".

We think it's fair to say both Downey and Parker are safe from suspicion. Parker and Broderick have been married since 1997 and have three children together. As for Downey, he married producer Susan Levin in 2005. They have one child together and are expecting another in November of this year.
