It appears that two of the Avengers will be collaborating outside of the rest of their fellow superheroes as Robert Downey Jr. will be reportedly bringing Iron Man to the set of 'Captain America 3.'

Could 'Iron Man' be crossing over to the 'Captain America' franchise?

According to Variety, the 49 year-old actor who has given life to billionaire Tony Stark is in final negotiations to join the cast of the yet-untitled third instalment that follows Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), which is slated for a release date of May 6, 2016.

This casting news comes after Downey confirmed that he will suit up in next year's 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron' and 'The Avengers 3.'

If this report is accurate, Iron Man and Captain America will most likely bring the Civil War storyline to the big screen, which will be the start of a brand new Marvel Studios' spinoff franchise, joining the already hugely successful line-up.

The potential plot will allegedly depict Stark and Rogers not seeing eye-to-eye on the controversial Superhero Registration Act, which lawfully forces any individual with superhero traits to report their identity to the United States government and serve as a police force for the authorities.

The Stark Industries owner agrees with the act, but the first Avenger fears that it violates the civil rights of someone like him. As the pair begin to feud over their difference of opinions, Rogers goes into hiding to avoid arrest, thus making Stark the villain of 'Captain America 3.'

It would be interesting to see if Marvel decide to take Iron Man as a wrongdoer into future superhero films, including a fourth 'Avengers.'

This character crossover news comes on the same day as Marvel also announced plans to reboot the Civil War comic book miniseries as early as next year. The film studio's official Twitter claims "#CivilWar #1" will be released in the summer of 2015.
