As predicted The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 held on to its top spot at the US Box Office over the weekend, with little change elsewhere either. Skyfall and Lincoln both held steady at second and third spot.
Following the mania of the film’s release last weekend, the usual fall in ticket sales did come, though it didn’t stop the Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart-starring flick from taking in a robust $43 million – down 69% from last week – to cross the $200 million mark overall domestically. Behind it, James Bond film Skyfall put in another strong performance to bring in $36 million as indeed did Lincoln, Spielberg’s biopic pulling in $25 million. So despite there being three non-movers, the figures posted by all were solid.
If they had reasons to be satisfied however, then some of its newcomers to the chart might be disappointed with their showings. Dreamworks Rise Of The Guardians was the highest entry at fourth spot, but it opened to softer than anticipated figures of $24 million for the weekend and $32.6 million overall. It’s one of the lowest openings for a Dreamworks film, though with school holidays coming up soon there is the hope that its second week will prove resolute. Life Of Pi was a little better, taking $22 million over the weekend and $30.1 million overall. Contrast that, however, with the critically maligned remake of Red Dawn, in at seventh with takings of just $14.6 million for the weekend, unable to beat the already released Wreck-It Ralph.
