Bosses at Sony Pictures Classics have worked out a deal with Brett Ratner to secure the rights to the movie for $6 million (GBP3.75 million).

The Captain America: The Winter Soldier star will appear alongside Cate Blanchett, who will play Rather's producer Mary Mapes in Truth, which will be based on her 2005 memoir Truth and Duty: The Press, The President, and The Privilege of Power.

The film will centre on the controversy surrounding Rather's 2004 news report, in which he claimed former U.S. President George W. Bush was allowed to serve in the Texas Air National Guard in order to avoid fighting in the Vietnam War.

Ratner says, "We had a much, much bigger offer from another company, but we took the Sony deal."
