Robin Thicke Reveals He Was "High On Vicodin And Alcohol" When Recording "Blurred Lines"

Robin Thicke

Last October (2013), Marvin Gaye's children filed a lawsuit against Robin Thicke for allegedly stealing 'Blurred Lines' from their father's 'Got To Give It Up' as well as committing copyright infringement on his 'After the Dance' to create Thicke's song, 'Love After War'.

The court deposition for this case, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, reveal that not just the supposed origins of 'Blurred Lines' are controversial, but the way in which Thicke took credit for the song is inaccurate.

The album was released only one week ago and sold 103,000 copies to secure the top spot. 'Mandatory Fun' is Weird Al Yankovic's fourteenth studio album, so he will surely be happy his efforts have finally paid off. It is also the first comedy album to reach the top spot since Allan Sherman's 1963 release 'My Son, The Nut'. Previously the closest Al had come was a Number 2 with 1996 single 'Amish Paradise'.

Weird Al Drops Pharrell And Robin Thicke Parodies Ahead Of "Mandatory Fun" Release

Weird Al Yankovic Pharrell Williams Robin Thicke

Parodies of Pharrell’s Happy  may be well past their sell-by date, but good things take time, as Weird Al Yankovic will probably tell you. That’s the one he released this week. Tacky, a take on Pharrell’s smash hit from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack has the same innocuous lyrics and bright colours that have been luring the easily amused to Weird Al’s parodies for decades.

Weird Al Yankovic
The curls aren't going away, in case you were wondering.

And that’s not all! Apparently the 52-year-old comedian has six more spoofs in the pipeline. According to the Reddit AMA Yankovic did on Tuesday, he will be releasing eight videos in eight days, ahead of his new album, Mandatory Fun. The second one, which was released today, is of that other big Pharrell hit, which nobody really wants to acknowledge these days – Blurred Lines. Except in Al’s case, it’s Word Crimes,, in which he lament the serious issue of bad grammar, spelling and punctuation online. Well, at least it’s a better message than the original, though admittedly Robin Thicke didn’t set the bar too high.

A Week In News: North Korea Threatens Seth Rogen, George Clooney Gets Angry, And Robin Thicke Is Knocked Out

The Interview

Seth Rogen Vs. North Korea: Seth Rogen should be feeling a little nervous right now. The actor and funnyman, who is preparing for the fall release of new movie The Interview, has been threatened after North Korea issued an official complaint to the UN. The shady country raised its hackles over the plot of Rogen's new movie, which depicts a plot to kill dictator Kim Jong-Un. This is unbelievable. If you want to thumb your nose at the Supreme Leader, go giggle at the poster - it's hilarious.

George Clooney Vs. The Daily Mail: George Clooney should only have seating arrangements and wedding cake tasting on his mind at the moment but the Gravity actor has had to engage in battle with The Daily Mail over comments the tabloid made alleging that the mother of Clooney's fiancée, Amal Alamuddin, was not happy with her daughters upcoming nuptials on religious grounds - a claim the actor has called a "lie." Clooney got angry, the Mail apologised, Clooney got angrier.

Why Did Robin Thicke's 'Paula' Flop In Its First Week?

Robin Thicke Paula Patton

What is it called when something surpasses a level of awkwardness where just simply “awkward” becomes an understatement? Saying “that’s so Robin Thicke” may not have a great ring to it, but it’s starting to fit the qualifications pretty perfectly. When Thicke and longtime partner Paula Patton separated this past February, Thicke seemed hellbent on getting back together with her. He dedicated songs to her in concerts, and even debuted his new single, aptly titled ‘Get Her Back,’ live at the Billboard Music Awards back in early May. However, things started getting weird when it was announced that his new album would be titled Paula after his estranged wife. Now that it’s finally released, it’s turning out to be a huge flop commercially, and that’s just adding more sting to the wound.

Robin Thicke LiveRobin Thicke’s new album will debut with one of the worst sales weeks of his career

Paula, released on July 1, comes less than a year since Thicke’s last record, Blurred Lines. The album featuring the gigantic single of the same name has gone on to sell nearly 700,000 copies in the United States, but Paula is turning out to be the complete opposite. Billboard reports that the album is expected to sell between 20,000-25,000 copies in its first week. If this holds true, it will mark the lowest debut for Thicke since the release of his second album, The Evolution of Robin Thicke, in 2007 where it came in with 20,000 sold. To compare with Blurred Lines: it sold 177,000 copies in the first week and debuted at #1 in July 2013. However, despite the low sales numbers for Paula, it may still be good enough to notch Thicke a spot in the top ten, which is pretty sad if you think about it – but it’s still not as sad as the Paula situation in general.

‘Paula’ Sells Just 530 Copies, So Is Robin Thicke The Most Pathetic Man In Pop?

Robin Thicke Paula Patton

Taking your heartache and pain over a failed relationship and trying to turn it into music is nothing new. But when Robin Thicke released Paula he took things to a whole new level. Writing an entire album about your former partner and then going so far as to name the album after her, has turned out not to be the massive romantic gesture Robin Thicke intended it to be. Instead most have found it all pretty creepy, so creepy that only 530 copies of the album have been sold so far in the UK. So does the album’s failure, plus all of Robin’s other actions over the past 12 months mean that Robin Thicke really is the most pathetic man in pop?

Robin ThickeRobin's new album Paula has not been the success he was hoping for

Last March Robin Thicke probably couldn't believe how fast his life had changed. Suddenly he’d gone from being a r’n’b singer with limited success, to an international pop sensation, who’d just released the ‘song of the summer.’ Prior to ‘Blurred Lines’s' summer domination, Thicke’s highest charting single had been 2007’s ‘Lost Without U’, which peaked at number 14 on the Billboard charts. Now he was number 1 worldwide, with one of the best selling singles of all time.

Robin Thicke can no longer cruise along in the slipstream of his previously highly successful single 'Blurred Lines'. Paula came in at No. 200 in the UK chart and it's difficult not to revel in Thicke's failure, as the Guardian reports.

Robin Thicke Titles New Album 'Paula' - Cute Or Creepy?

Robin Thicke Paula Patton

Somebody might need to give Robin Thicke an intervention. The Grammy nominated, multi-platinum selling artist has ruled the charts in the past year, with his hit singles like ‘Blurred Lines’ and ‘Give It 2 You,’ but music seems to be the only thing that’s been working out for him lately.

Robin Thicke's New Album Titled 'Paula': Ten More Cringe-Worthy Album Titles

In perhaps the most audacious and downright ridiculous move the music business has witnessed in the last few years, singer Robin Thicke has announced his new album will carry the title of Paula, which by some strange coincidence just happens to be the name of his estranged wife- actress Paula Patton.

Thicke and Patton at 56th Grammy AwardsThicke and Paula in more happy circumstances.

To say such a public declaration of love is cringe-worthy would be an understatement, it is such a trite attempt at reconciling with his wife that is seems like something straight out of Spinal Tap. You can imagine the album title sitting quite comfortably alongside the likes of Smell The Glove and Shark Sandwich. As if that wasn’t irksome enough, Thicke’s debut single from the album is entitled "Get Her Back” and it sees the ageing crooner positively straining to exude as much heartfelt sincerity as he can before he gives himself a heart attack.

What was Toronto Mayor Rob Ford doing on Jimmy Kimmel last night? Anyone who’s been following the story can already tell it was related to his drinking problem. Apparently, he was intended to restore his public image and had been courted by the show for months. On the night, however, things didn’t quite turn out as expected. The jokes ranged from rather harsh gags about Ford’s weight, to what some people would deem a completely inappropriate joke about Ford’s drinking habits. Check out this particular gem:

Kimmel told Ford that if he’s an alcoholic, and drinking enough that he would try crack cocaine in his 40s, “and you don’t remember it, maybe that’s something that you might want to think about, like talking to somebody.”

It all started with the release of ‘Burred Lines’ in March 2013, the single propelled Thicke from little known R&B singer to household name. A lot of the song’s attention came from its provocative and suggestive lyrical content, which many objected to, calling it misogynistic. However the other controversy was the song’s explicit video which featured full frontal naked women dancing with the singer. People were quick to wonder whether the singer’s actress wife was comfortable with the raunchy video. However Patton was quick to let everybody know that her husband had her full support, appearing on chat show ‘Chelsea Lately’, Mrs Thicke said the video originally made her a, ’little bit jealous’, but then she ‘wanted to jump his bones.’ She also confessed that it was in fact her who convinced Thicke to release the uncensored version of the video, telling him she liked it ‘better than the clothed version.’

Did Robin Thicke Steal 'Blurred Lines' From Marvin Gaye Song? [Listen]

Robin Thicke Marvin Gaye

Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' was easily the biggest song of the year - it will officially go down as one of the biggest selling songs of the year, however, a legal battle about the origins of the pop hit has broken out.

The family of Marvin Gaye's claims in a lawsuit that Thicke's song plagiarizes the late soul star's 1977 track 'Got to Give It Up.' Gaye's children Nona and Frankie said Thicke has a "fixation" on their father's work and clearly ripped his work for Blurred Lines.

In an interview with GQ magazine, shortly after the release of "Blurred Lines", Thicke said: "[Producer] Pharrell [Williams] and I were in the studio and I told him that one of my favourite songs of all time was Marvin Gaye's 'Got to Give It Up'. I was like, 'Damn, we should make something like that, something with that groove'. Then he started playing a little something and we literally wrote the song in about a half hour and recorded it." Hmmm, sounds pretty cut and dry to us.

Miley Cyrus & Robin Thicke Inspire Hugh Hefner & Paris Hilton's Costumes At Playboy Halloween Party

Miley Cyrus Robin Thicke Hugh Hefner Crystal Harris Paris Hilton

Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke inadvertently created a horror story three months before Halloween. Their performance at the MTV Video Music Awards in August has inspired the costumes of Hugh Hefner and his wife Crystal Harris at the Playboy Mansion's Halloween party on Saturday 26th October.

Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton's costume was inspired by Miley Cyrus' outfit at the MTV VMAs.

Hefner posted two photographs on his Twitter: one a selfie of the couple with Crystal holding a giant foam hand up to the camera; and the other with Crystal bending over in front of her husband. Hefner added the hash tag "twerking". Crystal, despite being a former 'Playmate' and glamour model, dressed more modestly than Cyrus had at the VMAs. She wore a short yellow dress as opposed to Cyrus' decision at the awards in August to wear a flesh coloured bikini. Hefner wore a striped suit with Thicke style sunglasses. It appears the costume was actually a prison outfit which Hefner had adapted with sunglasses, a gold chain and a microphone.
