Robin Thicke Launches Appeal Against 'Blurred Lines' Copyright Decision

Robin Thicke

Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams have launched an appeal against the landmark court ruling that awarded more than $5 million to the family of Marvin Gaye after it was found that their 2013 smash hit ‘Blurred Lines’ had copied elements of ‘Got To Give It Up’.

Lawyers for Thicke, as well as collaborators Pharrell and rapper TI, filed an opening brief with the ninth circuit court of appeals on Wednesday (August 24th), arguing as their opening statement: “if left to stand, the ‘Blurred Lines’ verdict would chill musical creativity and inhibit the process by which later artists draw inspiration from earlier artists to create new popular music”.

Post O2 Gigs, Pharrell Is On Top Of The World And Not Sweating The Small Stuff

Pharrell Williams Robin Thicke O2 Arena

I love Pharrell almost as much as I love that giant mushroom hat and after he produced the biggest hits of 2013 AND 2014, it’s likely that you do too. The multi-talented producer/rapper/musician/songwriter/mogul capped off his UK spree with a tell-all interview with The Independent, which basically covered everything from Robin Thicke to the aforementioned hat. The latter is apparently a  a vertiginous version of an old Vivienne Westwood design. After it made its debut at the Grammys in January, it’s definitely earned the title of Hat of the Year.

Robin Thicke Lied About Writing 'Blurred Lines', "I Was High And Drunk"

Robin Thicke says he was "high and drunk" during every interview he gave in 2013 and concedes that he had almost no hand in writing the smash hit single 'Blurred Lines', despite receiving around 20% of the royalties.

Robin Thicke Makes Up For Poor Sales By Selling $3M Family Home With Paula

Robin Thicke Paula Patton

Another nail in the coffin of Robin Thicke and Paula Patton’s relationship – the former couple are selling the family home in Bel Air. According to those real estate sleuths at TMZ, the house went up for sale on Monday, with an asking price of almost $3 million. Thicke could probably use the money, after his most recent album – a reunion plea titled Paula sold abysmal numbers – 530 copies in the UK and just 54 in Australia. At least the couple will get back their investment – the final solace of the divorced couple.

Robin Thicke
Robin Thicke's most recent plea to Paula Patton failed on all counts.

Although apparently it wasn’t actually the couple’s investment. Thicke’s father purchased the house back in 1990 for a measly $910,000. The pad includes a recording studio where Robin may have worked on songs like Blurred Lines, Lost Without You, and Get Her Back – all of which sounds like the universe is playing a bad joke on the singer.

Robin Thicke "Needed To Be Humbled" After Success And Criticism Of 2013

Robin Thicke

2013 was the year Robin Thicke finally became a huge name in the music industry, but along with his rise to stardom was a huge amount of criticism.

The 37 year-old singer dominated the charts last year with one hit song, 'Blurred Lines,' but along with the suggestive lyrics and raunchy music video, he was subjected to harsh backlash from the public.

To further tarnish his image, Thicke also caused controversy when performing at the 2013 MTV VMA's with Miley Cyrus, which saw the 21 year-old singer bent over, grinding on his groin in a very proactive manner.

#AskThicke: The Best Of Robin Thicke’s Twitter Q&A

Robin Thicke Paula Patton

On Monday, ‘Blurred Lines’ singer Robin Thicke teamed up with VH1 for a fan Q&A on Twitter using the hashtag #askthicke. The good news for the singer was that #askthicke soon became a worldwide trend, but the questions probably weren't the kind Robin was looking for. From being called out on his music's misogyny to having to address his marital woes, Robin got more than he bargained for from #askthicke.

Robin ThickeTwitter users were unleashed on Robin Thicke earlier in the week

Undoubtedly ‘Blurred Lines’ was 2013’s single of the summer, you really couldn't escape it. Unless that is, if you were attending one of the UK universities whose campus eventually banned the controversial single. But fast forward a year later in the life of Robin Thicke and things are a little different. The singer has recently split from his wife of nine years Paul Patton and seemingly in an effort to get her back, he’s named his latest album Paula. But when the singer took to twitter on Monday for a Q&A with VH1 he was probably expecting to answer questions based around his new material. Instead the twitterverse decided he had a lot more to answer for.

Probably the best sun-soaked family vacation you could ask for at such great value, SunFest arrives at West Palm Beach today (April 30th 2014) with a line-up that truly has something for everyone - if you'd pardon the cliché. Like any decent festival, filling in the spaces between bands is everything from the BB&T Juried Fine Art & Craft show to the Floating Oasis barge parties, not to mention the much anticipated fireworks display on Sunday. Having hosted its first event in 1982, it's no wonder it has remained such a family favourite, attracting over 165,000 revellers each year.

While Paula Patton Wows At Independent Spirits, Robin Thicke Stays Chaste (Probably)

Paula Patton Robin Thicke

Robin Thicke might be trying to win back Paula Patton’s affections, but in the mean time, both of them are doing their own thing – which is probably better for everyone involved. While Patton made an impression at Saturday’s Independent Spirit Awards, Thicke apparently stayed away from the barely-dressed ladies (for once).

Whether she was looking to show Thicke what he’s missing (unlikely) or she just wanted to strut her stuff, it worked. Despite not being nominated for any awards, Patton was one of the stars of the night.

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has announced plans for a new age-rating system designed to tackle online music videos deemed inappropriate material for young people. Robin Thicke To Receive 'R.E.S.P.E.C.T' Voucher As He Wins Sexist Of The Year

Robin Thicke

Robin Thicke has won the title of Sexist Of The Year by the End Violence Against Women Coalition after his hit single 'Blurred Lines' was accused of glamorising rape culture.

He may have become a worldwide number one sensation with the track, but it's probably won Thicke a lot more critics than supporters as, ever since its release, people have blasted the song for its vile and degrading lyrics and, of course, the explicit accompanying video. The End Violence Against Women Coalition are thus sending the singer a voucher for the download of Aretha Franklin's 'R.E.S.P.E.C.T' to congratulate him and attempt to invite him to change his sexist ways.

Robin Thicke was looking down the barrel of a double lawsuit only a few short months ago, with both Marvin Gaye's family and Bridgeport Music Inc. - who own the rights to the music of Funkadelic/Parliament - threatening to take the singer to court. This week, Gaye's family finally made true on their threat.

"Not Concerned": Paula Patton Brushes Off Rumour That Robin Thicke Cheated On Her With Student

Robin Thicke Paula Patton

Paula Patton, the actress wife of R&B singer Robin Thicke, has dismissed the claims made by a student that Thicke cheated on her. According to 20 year-old student socialite Lana Scolaro, she and Thicke got cosy at last month's VMA Awards afterparty and even kissed passionately. Scolaro also posted two photos of herself with Robin: one showing the NY socialite with her arm draped around a grinning Robin; the other showing the pair together, with the 'Blurred Lines' singer's hand clearly tightly gripping Lana's backside.

A representative for the pair speaking to Life & Style magazine insists that Scolaro is just "an attention seeker" in a statement that read: "It's just a girl looking for some attention. The Oxford Online Dictionary has continued its impressive record for recognizing current trends by adding the words ‘Selfie’ and ‘Twerking’. The latter has actually been common among hip hop trends for 20 years, while the former emerged due to technological advances in phone cameras, which meant people could take high quality photos of themselves, if they were that way inclined.

"Blurred Lines" Was Not Plagiarized Off Marvin Gaye, Claims Preemptive Complaint By Robin Thicke

Robin Thicke Pharrell Williams T.I Marvin Gaye

Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams have made no qualms about the fact that their summer anthem Blurred Lines was heavily influenced by Marvin Gaye’s Got to Give It Up. So far, neither the Gaye family, nor Bridgeport Music Inc., have raised any official copyright claims based on the song, however Thicke, Williams and collaborator Clifford Harris Jr. (aka T.I.) have filed a preemptive complaint to protect themselves against future disputes.

In a preemptive strike, Thicke is taking the case to court himself.

According to the L.A. Times, the creative team has requested that the L.A. Court Judge verify that the song does not violate any copyright restrictions. The complaint states that representatives of the Gaye estate have threatened to sue Thicke and Williams, based on a perceived similarity between Blurred Lines and the Marvin Gaye songs Got to Give It Up and Sexy Ways. Thcke and co. have asked the court to declare that Blurred Lines does not infringe on copyrights just because of said similarity.

So, You're All Still Buying Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines'

'Blurred Lines,' the smash-hit pop single by Robin Thicke leads the Billboard Hot 100 for the seventh week running. It's the most time spent atop the chart this year, eclipsing the five-week record set by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's 'Thrift Shop' in February-April.

According to the compiler of the chart, Billboard, 'Lines' has also set an impressive airplay record, claiming the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer award for an unprecedented eighth week. Songs to manage seven weeks include Beyonce's Irreplaceable (2006/2007), Mariah Carey's 'We Belong Together' (2005-2006), Rihanna's 'What's My Name?' (2010-11) and Rude Boy (2010).

Robin Thicke's song, featuring rapper T.I. and Pharrell Williams, also tops the Digital Songs chart for an eighth week, selling 340,000 downloads in the Nielsen SoundScan tracking week. That's down 11% though was easily enough to maintain its stranglehold on the top of the chart.

Second UK Number 1 For Pharrell Williams This Year, While Robin Thicke Plans For The Next One

Pharrell Williams Robin Thicke

Robin Thicke managed to stir up a lot of controversy with his video for Blurred Lines, but now he has to find a way to spice things up even more for the next one. And what better way than getting the leader of the free world to participate? This seemed to be Thicke’s reasoning, when he spole to The Sun about his future plans. He said: “We’re gonna have to see if President Obama will be in it. I don’t know how you can top Blurred Lines. Either that, or maybe we just won’t make a video at all. Just disappear on top. It’s like winning the championship in your last season. Why play again?”

He does have a point, and there are many critics, who probably wouldn’t be too sad to see him go. The video for Blurred Lines has been called exploitative and misogynistic by equality groups. Then again, it has also been played over 100,000,000 times on youtube (between the censored and the unrated versions) and has apparently earned Thicke a second chance at pop stardom.

The nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards 2013 have been announced, with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Justin Timberlake leading the field. Armed with their videos for 'Can't Hold Us' and 'Thrift Shop,' the hip-hop duo will square off against JT at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on August 25, 2013.

Both acts received six nominations, with Timberlake getting nods for his 'Suit and Tie' and 'Mirrors' promos. Elsewhere, Bruno Mars appears to have every chance of taking home the prize of 'Video of the Year' with 'Locked out of Heaven,' though Robin Thicke's controversial clip for 'Blurred Lines' and Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble' will also be popular.

The VMAs - one of the biggest events on the pop music calendar - represents the first time a major awards show has been held in Brooklyn. The place has been a mecca for art and culture for years, though the Barclays Center appears to have truly put it on the map.

Incredibly, Jay-Z has landed his first ever UK number one album, with Magna Carta Holy Grail storming the chart and holding off Mumford & Sons and Rod Stewart. The rapper's previous highest-charting album was the 2011 collaborate effort with Kanye West, Watch the Throne, which entered at No.3.

Holy Grail managed to hold off Mumford & Sons' Babel despite a surge in sales following the group's triumphant headlining show at the Glastonbury Festival. Jay-Z also comfortably outsold Rod Stewart's number-one album Time. Passenger took the third spot with All The Little Light, with Canadian crooner Michael Buble dropped two places to No.4 with To Be Loved.

Jay-Z has been performing in the UK this weekend, headlining the second night of the Wireless music festival at the Queen Elizabeth Park on the former Olympics site. Will Justin Timberlake Be Sued For 'Take Back The Night' Track Title?

Justin Timberlake Robin Thicke Jay Z

Timberlake debuted new track 'Take Back The Night' at London's Wireless Festival during his Friday headline slot, to great excitement from fans but one organisation apparently is not impressed with the 'Sexyback' singer's choice of track name. Take Back The Night, an anti-rape charity, are "shocked" to learn that Timberlake chose the name of their organisation for his new song which features overtly sexual lyrics. "Tonight the night, come on surrender/ I won't lead your love astray, astray, yeah/ Your love's a weapon/ Give your body some direction/ That's my aim," sings Timberlake who clearly graduated from the same school of persuasive courtship as 'Blurred Lines' singer Robin Thicke.

Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake Is In A Spot Of Trouble With A Charity Whose Name He Used Without Permission.

Essentially, it's a typical Timberlake track, laced with whistles and a horn section and those distinctive falsetto vocals, i.e. it's bound to be a mega hit. So it's no wonder really that JT's ruffled a few feathers over the identity of the titling phrase; the charity are perturbed to say the least, with Take Back the Night Foundation Executive Director Katherine Koestner explaining to Radar Online: "We have some big concerns. For example, all of a sudden on Wikipedia, Take Back the Night has a different definition. That's not been helpful." Turning scrutiny towards the song's sexually-themed lyrics, Koestner adds "The lyrics are definitely very sexual and not at all clearly anti-sexual violence. 'Use me,' for example, is not a great phrase for anyone affiliated with the organization."

Amid Controversy, Robin Thicke Stands Up To Defend "Blurred Lines"

Robin Thicke Pharrell Williams T.I

Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines and the accompanying video might have been getTIng a lot of flack for the “rape-y” lyrics and the objectification of women in the clip, but fret not, because Thicke himself has stepped up to defend his work. You have to admire the man for standing up to defend lyrics like “Nothin' like your last guy, he too square for you/He don't smack that ass and pull your hair for you” and, of course the ever charming “I'm a nice guy, but don't get confused, you gettin’ it” But at least Thick has a reasonable explanation for his questionable lyrics, right? Well, sort of.

“For me it’s about blurring the lines between men and women and how much we’re the same,” Thicke said in what sounds like a promising statement for Radio 1. “And then there’s the other side of it which is the blurred lines between a good girl and a bad girl, and even very good girls all have little bad sides to them.”

The censored version might have been deemed SFW, but it still has a lot of the same problems.

Robin Thicke Dismisses 'Rapey' Lyrics Claims, Says He's Wife's Into Racy Music Vid

Robin Thicke T.I

The lyrics of Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines ft. T.I., Pharrell' as well as the accompanying highly sexualised music video have been widely criticised, with claims that the song objectifies women and makes a joke out of rape. The lyrics, which include the lines "OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you/But you're an animal, baby it's in your nature/Just let me liberate you," could be interpreted to mean that it is acceptable for a man to assert his dominance over a woman sexually, whether she likes it or not as Thicke croons "I know you want it."

Rape charities, such as Rape Crisis, have slammed Thicke with spokesperson Katie Russell voicing concern: "The lyrics of 'Blurred Lines' seem to glamourise violence against women and to reinforce rape myths, which we strive to dispel. Both the lyrics and the video seem to objectify and degrade women, using misogynistic language and imagery that many people would find not only distasteful or offensive but also really quite old fashioned," adding "More disturbingly, certain lyrics are explicitly sexually violent and appear to reinforce victim-blaming rape myths, for example about women giving 'mixed signals' through their dress or behaviour, saying 'no' when they really mean 'yes' and so on."

Katie Russell, speaking on behalf of the charity Rape Crisis, said "the lyrics of 'Blurred Lines' seem to glamourize violence against women and to reinforce rape myths, which we [Rape Crisis] strive to dispel". This is primarily due to the number of possible readings of the song's lyrics for instance "nothing like your last guy/he don't smack that ass and pull your hair like that".  As well as the repeated line "I know you want it".

Timberlake - who's returning album The 20/20 Experience was a monumental success - had warned fans on Twitter that the music video was a little bit raunchy and YouTube duly removed it from the site. He said, "Check out the new video for Tunnel Vision and be ready...it's explicit."

Daft Punk And Robin Thicke Take Over UK Charts, Mostly Thanks To Digital Sales

Daft Punk Robin Thicke Pharrell Williams Rolling Stones Arctic Monkeys Mumford And Sons

Well, it’s the middle of the year and about time to recap the big events in music in 2013 – particularly, the best and worst sales numbers of the year. the It turns out, not so surprisingly, that French electronic duo Daft Punk have broken records both for album and single sales this year. However, it’s not just Daft Punk, who are getting a hefty chunk from the retail pie – sales of both singles and albums are up from this time in 2012 – with singles experiencing a 2.5 percent increase, while compilation sales are un 9% (according to the Telegraph). It seems that the music business has didital sales to thank for whatever increase there is in the overall numbers, seeing as how 99% of all UK sales this year have fallen into the digital category.

Unless lightning strikes twice, Daft Punk are set to come out as this year's clear winners.

In terms of singles, it is no secret that Daft Punk’s Get Lucky, featuring Pharrell Williams and Chic's Nile Rodgers easily takes the top spot for sales. Since its release ten weeks ago, the summer hit has passed one million individual sales in the UK. Not only that, but the record has also broken records for number of plays on streaming service Spotify – and it managed to do it in just 24 hours after its release. Clearly, the Frenchmen are on a roll this year, since the full album – Random Access Memories, also broke the Spotify streaming record on its release shortly after. The second single, not so unexpectedly, is Robin Thicke’s single Blurred Lines – also a collaboration with Pharell Williams – with 828 000 copies sold to date.

Andy Murray's Wimbledon Spotify Playlist: Ed Sheeran, Eminem, Robin Thicke

Ever wanted to know what Andy Murray and his fellow Wimbledon competitors listen to before heading out onto centre court? Well, of course Roger Federer chills out to The National, Rafael Nadal listens to the soothing sounds of Spanish guitars and Djokovic listens to early Oasis. Obviously.

Andy MurrayAndy Murray Arriving At Wimbledon This Week

But what about young Murray? With pretty much everyone in Britain anticipating him to win his first Wimbledon title, the Scottish star has shared his playlist with Spotify. It's made up of a couple of morale boosting stompers with some contemporary grooves in there for good measure. Worryingly, 1980's singer-songwriter and Meg Ryan's latest squeeze John Mellencamp makes two appearances on the list, as does Ed Sheeran. AC/DC's legendary rock anthem 'You Shook Me All Night Long' and Robin Thicke's No.1 track Blurred Lines also helps Andy remain focused. Apparently.

Icona Pop Reigning UK Singles Chart With 'I Love It FT Charlie XCX'

Icona Pop Robin Thicke T.I

Swedish electro-pop duo Icona Pop have snatched the UK chart top spot from Robin Thicke and his 'Blurred Lines' (ft. T.I., Pharrell) track that had been at No.1 for four weeks. According to the BBC, 'I Love It,' which features Charlie XCX, has sold 125,000 copies in the seven days prior to last Sunday's (30th June) charts. They knew they were in for a good chance of being the week's bestseller as they were the midweek leaders by Wednesday. The Stockholm girls tweeted their triumph with, "#1 in the UK! WOOOW!! we're so happy!!" as it emerged that not only was their single at No.1, but they were the first Swedish female act to reach the top of the UK singles charts since Robyn's 'With Every Heartbeat' in 2007.

The hedonistic summer hit has sold more than 100,000 copies a week for 11 weeks, according to The Telegraph, which is a strength in sales not seen since a time period from January to April in 1998 that saw classic singles from Oasis, Aqua, Celine Dion and Run DMC vie for top positions. Icona Pop's rise to the top also coincidences with a chart shake-up from the album side as well; as forecasted last week, singer/pianist Tom Odell's album Long Way Down has peaked at No.1, shaking off rapper Kanye West with his latest album Yeezus that had shot straight to the top on release.

Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' Continues To Dominate The Charts, But Will His Album Fare As Well?

Robin Thicke Pharrell Williams T.I

Robin Thicke scored his fourth week on top of the UK Single Chart at the end of last week (June 23) and despite criTIcism for his 'rapey,' derogatory lyrics, the singer is still riding high on the success of his most popular song to date. Speaking with Radio.com, the singer seemed unperturbed by criticism and promised fans that, despite the backlash his single has received, the album will be a 'feel good' hit.

The album, also called Blurred Lines, is the follow-up to Thicke's poorly-received and poor selling Love After War, and also features the singer breaking away form his usual style of being the sole focus on his releases, with little outside help appearing on any of his past works. As his success began to dwindle, Thicke decided that it was time to bring in some outside help and turn his usual bedroom R&B style into much more accessible pop. A move that has clearly proved to be a success.

"I realized, this time, I'm not going to do it all on my own. I'm going to hire some of the great hit-makers in the business and try to make some music everybody can enjoy instead of just my small fan base," the singer said in his interview, before going on to address the subject of his song, in which he seemingly furthers the idiom that women don't know what they want, so men best give it too 'em.

The Unexpected Success Of Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" Might Make It Inescapable This Summer

Robin Thicke Pharrell Williams

Robin Thicke is topping charts everywhere with his first single off Blurred Lines, also imaginatively titled Blurred Lines. While many are panning the song for its “rapey” lyrics and, um, strange video – hint: it features women wearing clingfilm, Thicke’s success in the charts seems to indicate that the show definitely has a lot of fans (if you ignore, of course, the “ironic” observers.)

Thicke himself explains that he’s very proud of the song and the upcoming album will feature more of the same – dance beats with not-very-engaging lyrics and, presumably, more half-naked women in videos. Thicke explained for Radio.com, via Reality TV Magazine: “I realized, this time, I’m not going to do it all on my own. I’m going to hire some of the great hit-makers in the business and try to make some music everybody can enjoy instead of just my small fan base,” Thicke explained, hoping that Blurred Lines does better.” The singer might be referring to the low sales of his last album, which didn’t go over well with fans or critics.

Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ Slammed For 'Rapey' Lyrics

Robin Thicke

Weird, awkward and downright creepy. Robin Thicke’s new track and video for ‘Blurred Lines’ ft. T.I., Pharrell has been criticised for its 'rapey' lyrics.

Have we travelled back in time? Are women no longer regarded as free thinking individuals? Clearly not according to Robin Thicke, singer, actor and self-selected lothario, who teams his new track’s toe-curling lyrics with an equally degrading and blatantly misogynistic video. This hasn’t happened by accident – oh no – Mr. Thicke hasn’t just thrown a giant fake dice, an exercise bike and his bezzies T.I and Pharrell into a giant studio, proceed to corner a bunch of nearly naked models and then gotten surprised by peoples’ outrage.

“We tried to do everything that was taboo - bestiality, drug injections, and everything that is completely derogatory towards women,” proclaimed Thicke in an interview with GQ, not exactly helping his cause. He continues to describe the “pleasure” he took in degrading women, “I’ve never gotten to do that before. I’ve always respected women” – as if that somehow absolves him from all future wrongdoings towards women forever.

Blurred Lines Unrated And Crossed - Miley Cyrus Invades Performance

Robin Thicke Pharrell Williams Miley Cyrus

A certain Miley Cyrus gate-crashed Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams’ performance of the chart-topping tune ‘Blurred Lines’ last night at the MySpace party. Not that those two minded – they seemed perfectly happy to let the former Disney star strut her stuff on stage. She’s friends with Pharrell, see, as the recent Daft Punk collaborator is producing her upcoming album.

Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines Gets 'Queens Of The Stone Aged'

Robin Thicke Pharrell Williams

Can we start by asking who Robin Thicke is? Why is he working with Pharrell Williams and T.I? Why is it suddenly okay to have a video full of naked girls? Answers on a postcard please, we need something to read. In the meantime, it’s worth checking out The Queen of The Stone Age’s cover of the song, which they recorded for the BBC in their live lounge.

The ginger Elvis, AKA Joshua Homme, spits out a stripped back version while shaking what seems to be a bottle of pills. Troy Van Leeuwen and Dean Fertita, who play guitar for the stripped back version, bring this acoustic version of the track to you. The egotistical Thicke – how else do you describe a man who sings the lyrics to Blurred Lines – has recently admitted to making love while his own tracks were playing. “I have, yes!” he told Heat when they asked him. “If it shows up in the middle of a playlist. I never purposely put it on, though.” BS. Thicke’s new video is controversial, because it has loads of topless girls in it, but for him, they don’t compare to his wife.

"There are three girls, so mathematically that's three pairs of boobs. But, to be honest - and I've got to be honest - I've been around a lot of boobs. My wife has one of the most amazing pair of boobs you could ever see, so these ones didn't knock my socks off," Robin admitted.

Rod Stewart, Pharrell, Cee-Lo Green Lined Up To Appear On The Voice USA

Rod Stewart Cee-Lo Green Lady Antebellum Pharrell Williams Robin Thicke

The producers of The Voice USA have arranged a varied line-up of music stars to perform on the show in the coming weeks, Reuters reports. Amongst them is Rod Stewart, who will be performing music from ‘Time,’ his first album of original material in over 10 years. He is scheduled to appear on the show on May 10, according to the report and he will be joined by Cee-Lo Green – formerly a judge on the show. Green is expected to perform his new song ‘Only You.’

On May 14, the show’s organisers have lined up a performance from Lady Antebellum. The Grammy award winners are currently promoting their album Golden and have been invited onto the show; currently one of US TV’s prime spots for promoting artists’ new material. The pop singer Robin Thicke will also be making an appearance on the same show as Lady Antebellum, as will rapper T.I. and singer / producer Pharrell, who recently guested on Daft Punk’s comeback track Get Lucky. The show averages around 14 million viewers across the two weekly shows.

The Voice is currently in its fourth season in the US, having recently drafted in Shakira and Usher to replace Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera. The season will draw to a close in June, when a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a recording contract.

Suede Bloodsport Promo Picture

Albums of Note... Tasked with the tricky mission of releasing an album that stood up to their back catalogue, after several years in the wilderness and a brief spell of time on the reunion circuit, Suede have finally released Bloodsports. Rather than opting for replicating one of their previous albums, they have amalgamated elements of all five of them.
They’ve not lost their distinctive, Bowie-obsessed sound and Suede will forever have one foot in the Britpop era but with Bloodsports they have achieved what few can manage: to come back after a lengthy hiatus, ties unsevered, water under the bridge and still get back to making a quality album and reclaiming their mark on the British landscape.“Bloodsports then, is exactly the album that Suede needed to make. It is loud, aggressive, uncompromising and absolutely, defiantly Suede. Nobody else could have written these songs. Suede have done the almost impossible task of simultaneously looking back at the past while planting a foot firmly into the future.”

Pitched somewhere between The Killers and the Kings of Leon, Cold War Kids have returned with much of the same kind of material that they showcased on their first album. Dear Miss Lonely Hearts is a little bit “Cold War Kids by numbers” and although they’re pretty adept at what they do, if they just stepped out of their comfort zone for a moment, they could surely achieve much greater heights.
The album's sure fire highlight is Jailbirds, a jaunty rocker, with a fat bass line and a noisy breakdown reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age. This song offers something a little different and breaks the slight monotony of the rest of the album.
