Robin Thicke's family helped him to get over his split from Paula Patton.

The 'Blurred Lines' hitmaker, who is now dating 20-year-old model April Geary Love, also had to take a career break in order to be able to move past their painful divorce after nine years of marriage last year.

The 38-year-old singer, who has four-year-old son Julian with the 'About Last Night' actress, said: ''I just finally took a few months off or more. I spent a lot of time with my parents even, talking with them and getting their advice. I always kind of grew up thinking I knew what I was doing. When you have some tough times, you call on your parents, you call on your grandfather for advice, and I just spent so much time with my son and that just made me realise what's important.''

Robin initially tried to win Paula, 39, back after they announced their separation and even penned an album, 'Paula,' about her.

But he insists his latest track, 'Back Together,' is not about her.

Speaking on 'Good Morning America,' he said: ''Actually I didn't write this song so I can't take credit for the meaning. I just heard this idea of getting back together and getting yourself back together, and what I was going through at the time I really really related to that and connected to it.

''It's more about the theme of getting yourself back together with love and partnership.''
