Russell Brand Sparks Fracas At GQ Men Of The Year Awards With Nazi Jibes

At the annual GQ Men of the Year Awards, Russell Brand sparked off a war of words between himself, Charles Moore, actor Jeremy Piven and a host of others, as the group embarked on a night long slanging contest that took place during their respective time on stage. According to the Evening Standard, the slang-off was sparked by Brand's ill-advised Nazi joke, which seemed to set the subject matter for the night early on.

'Once Upon A Time In Wonderland': Prepare For A 'Kickass' Alice In 'Psychedelic Romance'

This October, ABC will premiere a brand new television fantasy series, expanding on Lewis Carroll's original fiction as well as the countless movie and television adaptations that have been inspired throughout the last century. So what makes Once Upon A Time In Wonderland so different?

Once Upon A Time In Wonderland
The Cast (L-R): Naveen Andrews, Sophie Lowe, Emma Rigby, Michael Socha & Peter Gadiot.

For a start the premise is pretty interesting; rather than just a rehash of the adaptation of the same story, producers are taking the viewer through the looking glass, so to speak, and into a world where Wonderland is brought together with Aladdin.

Amazing Journey: The Story Of The Who Review

Good
"From humble beginnings to their meteoric rise to rock legend status," Amazing Journey offers everything we've come to expect from a rock documentary. Every piece of information you'd want about The Who can be found here. Early hits like "I Can't Explain" and "My Generation" are chronicled, as is Pete Townshend's instrumental destruction (which has since become a widely copied cliche). Each member of the band gets face time -- though John Entwhistle and Keith Moon, both deceased, are covered via archival material -- in order to pontificate on the band's origins and legendary stories. Non-Who rock gods, from Sting to Eddie Vedder, are also on hand to wax Whoish.

You really hear all there is to know about The Who along the way: from Tommy to two drug overdoses to the influence of guru Meher Baba (the "Baba" in "Baba O'Reilly") to the 11 people killed at a 1979 Who concert trampled trying to get into the show, still the deadliest concert event in American history. Even Townsend's run-in with the law over a child pornography incident earlier in the decade is covered, if only on a surface level.

Monterey Pop Review

Excellent
For those of us who weren't yet born when the 1960's rock 'n' rolled around, Monterey Pop affords an affectionate glimpse of the music that influenced our parents to be hippies. From Otis Redding to Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin to the Mamas and the Papas, and Jefferson Airplane to The Who, this documentary is jam-packed with contagious energy. But I give fair warning that I will reveal the ending, which does not do the rest of the film the justice it deserves.

Shot in 1969 at an outdoor concert that precluded Woodstock, the film defies the stereotype of the general population at the time. Sure, some have painted their faces and smoke joints, but D.A. Pennebaker (The War Room, Moon Over Broadway) surprisingly chooses to show a broad spectrum of the audience. No matter who is watching, it all comes back to the talented musicians that stir your soul.
