Ronnie Wood once splashed out $17,400 (£12,000) on a piece of artwork - only to discover it was a rare portrait worth $145,000 (£100,000).
The Rolling Stones star is an avid art collector and is a particular fan of Irish painter William Orpen.
Wood was delighted when he put in a winning bid in the 1980s on a piece by the artist - but was shocked to find out it was worth almost 10 times what he paid for it.
He says, "I sent my manager to an auction at Sotheby's. I looked through the catalogue and said: 'Get this and this if you can,' and managed to get the portrait of (art dealer, Charles) Wertheimer for £12,000.
"Unknown to me, it was a missing Orpen and worth about £100,000."
