ROLLING STONES star Ronnie Wood was always reminded of his gypsy roots as a child, when his father took him to the boat community they once belonged to.
The START ME UP guitarist - the first of his parents' barge-dwelling gang to be born on dry land - would accompany his dad on fishing trips to Kingston-On-Thames, Surrey, on the outskirts of London and meet up with old friends of the family.
He says, "When I was very young, he'd take me fishing on the canals and we'd go see his pals on the boats. I remember lunches down in the cabin, with condensed milk.
"I remember the beautiful, murky smell down there, and the engines going, just travelling along the canals."
