Film adaptions of books are currently the hottest ticket in film making. Studios seemed to have realised that with popular books comes a ready made fan base, although this can be a double edged sword. Sure, you’re attracting big crowds, but they’re also going to be much more scrutinising when it comes to the plot lines and characters that they know and love. These upcoming book adaptions have got a lot of draw, let’s hope they live up to fan expectations.

Gone Girl
Rosamund Pike is cast as Amy in Gone Girl

Gone Girl

Gillian Flynn’s thriller is currently in production, with an expected release in October 2014. Starring Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck, with David Fincher directing, Gone Girl is a psychological thriller with more twists and turns than a country road. Immensely popular with both men and women, the plot focuses on the disappearance of Amy and the subsequent search by her husband, Nick. The appearance of Amy’s diary fuels suspicions and implications, but is everything as it seems?

The Maze Runner

Young adult novels are all the rage for film producers these days, the huge success of Twilight, The Hunger Games and Divergent speaks for itself. James Dashner’s The Maze Runner is the next to join the line of action-fueled-dystopian-teenage-romances, starring Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien and set to be the directorial debut of Wes Ball. The Maze Runner was initially set for an April release, but has been pushed back until September 2014.

Serena

Ron Rash’s Serena will see Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence once again teaming up with her Silver Linings Playbook co-star Bradley Cooper. The pair have been cast as a couple unable to conceive and start a family and the film explores issues of life in the South during the Depression era.  Lawrence and Cooper are electric on screen together, so this is a film that we really can't wait to see.

The Fault In Our Stars

This one is set to be absolutely huge. Divergent actress Shailene Woodley plays Hazel, a teenager diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Hazel meets Augustus at a cancer support group and the pair go on to change the course of each others lives. A serious tear-jerker, but not in the expected way. Take your Kleenex and prepare to be surprised.

Fifty Shades of Grey

It’s the ‘mummy porn’ flick that the world has been waiting for. Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (lucky wife of Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Nowhere Boy director) Dakota Johnson has been cast as Anastasia Steele, with Keira Knightley’s ex Jamie Dornan as BDSM fan Christian Grey. There’s already been rumours that Fifty Shades of Grey is more softcore than fans were hoping for, we’ll just have to wait and see if it lives up to the erotic expectations set by the book.
