Rosie O’Donnell has filled for divorce from her wife of nearly three years, Michelle Rounds, after announcing the couple's breakup earlier this month. The split had led the comedienne to walk away from her hosting job on 'The View' at the beginning this month, in order to devote more time to raising her five children.

According to People magazine, O’Donnell filed for divorce in Manhattan’s State Supreme Court in New York on Friday, citing "an irretrievably broken relationship”. According to the divorce papers, O'Donnell and Rounds have a prenuptial agreement in place.

In a video uploaded to her Youtube channel earlier this month O’Donnell elaborated on her decision to leave the series. “Here it is in a nutshell, people are asking why didn't we talk about my leaving ‘The View’ on’ The View today’, O’Donnell began the video.

Adding “I'm minimising my stress by leaving ‘The View’. The stress that I'm having at home is not easily as remediable - is that even a word - but you know it's hard, marriage is complicated. And I've got five kids, four of them are teenagers and you know there's lots of stuff going on at home. And there's lots of stuff going on at work and the only thing that I can control is the work by leaving.'

Rounds and O’Donnell tied the knot in New York in 2012, after dating since mid 2011. The couple adopted a baby daughter, Dakota together in September 2013, who they are now said to be sharing custody of. The divorce is the second for O’Donnell, who was previously married to Kelli Carpenter from 2004 to 2007.
