Rufus Sewell has signed up for 'Hercules'.

The 45-year-old star will portray Autolycus - who is the son of Olympian god Hermes and has a helmet to make him invisible - alongside DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON, who will take up the titular role of the mythological Greek hero, Deadline reports.

The script has been loosely adapted by Ryan Condal from the comic series 'Hercules: The Thracian Wars', and Brett Ratner will helm the motion picture, which will see Hercules working as a mercenary after renouncing his mythological roots.

Norwegian actor Aksel Hennie will star alongside Johnson and Sewell as madman warrior Tydeus and 'The L.A. Complex' beauty Cassie Steele has been linked to the role of Aphrodite.

Earlier this week, Johnson revealed he has been on a ''crazy diet'' to ensure he is in peak physical fitness for his super-human role, which has involved him eating ''six to seven times a day''.

The 40-year-old star told BANG Showbiz: ''In terms of training, it all depends on what I'm doing that day. It all depends on what the goal is. Right now I'm prepping for 'Hercules' so the diet is a crazy diet. I eat six to seven times a day.''

'Hercules' is set to open in the UK on July 25, 2014.
