The hard right political commentator isn’t normally one to concern himself with pop culture, let alone women’s rights, but he seems to have taken an interest all of a sudden. The reason? B’s new single Bow Down, which is, according to Rush, an affront to feminism. Limbaugh took the lyrics of Bow Down to mean Beyonce’s submission and her new role as Jay Z’s missus. And he had things to say. A lot of them.
"Beyoncé, now having been married, having been impregnated and giving birth to Blue Ivy…she's got a new song, 'Bow, Down Bitches'… Beyoncé is now saying, 'Go ahead and put up with it, Rush calls from his soapbox "You know why? I'll tell you why. Because she married a rich guy. She's even calling herself Mrs. Carter on the tour…She has shelved Beyoncé…She now understands it's worth it to bow down."
Rush vs Beyonce - Did he actually listen to the song?
Now, had he taken a closer look at the lyrics, the pundit probably would have caught their actual meaning, which is aimed at young, up-and-coming acts, competing with Queen B. “You have to earn your spotlight” is probably closer to the mark, when it comes to Bow Down’s meaning. Still, that sentiment isn’t completely inoffensive either. B’s colleague, Keyshia Cole, had this to say over Twitter: "First 'Women need to Stick together' now bitches better Bow. Smh. But it's all G! Chicks stay shooting the s--t. But when I speak my mind it's a prob."
Unlike Limbaugh, Cole might actually have a point.
