Everyone is raving about the upcoming musical 'La La Land' since it landed the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival last week, and there's a good reason why. If history is anything to go by, TIFF awards are usually a good indication of what lies in store for the Oscars.

La La LandEmma Stone and Ryan Gosling star in La La Land

Damien Chazelle's movie about two creative souls struggling to survive on a pittance and living in Los Angeles has been announced as the People's Choice Award at the Canadian festival yesterday (September 18th 2016), and the world will get a chance to see the new film starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in December.

It's an exciting win for the movie as many People's Choice Award winners have gone on to scoop Best Picture Academy Awards; flicks like 'The King's Speech', 'Slumdog Millionaire' and '12 Years a Slave'. In other words, it's never a bad omen to take home the Toronto International Film Festival's top prize.

The film is directed and written by Damien Chazelle; the guy behind 'Whiplash' who went on to receive an Oscar nomination for it. It's about jazz pianist named Sebastian who falls in love with an aspiring actress named Mia under the bright lights of Los Angeles. However, it's not easy trying to make a name for themselves in the shadows of others before them, and their dreams frequently get in the way of their romance. As well as Gosling and Stone, the movie also stars John Legend and re-unite Chazella with 'Whiplash' star JK Simmons.

In addition to the TIFF People's Choice Award, the film has also seen Stone win the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival, where the movie was also nominated for the Golden Lion.

'La La Land' is expected to be released in US theaters on December 16th 2016.
