Gosling's reaction to the mix-up when 'La La Land' was accidentally awarded Best Picture instead of 'Moonlight' at last month's Oscars was brilliant.
Ryan Gosling’s reaction to the much-discussed and dissected ‘Wrong Best Film’-gate incident at last month’s Oscars won him a great deal of respect – but the star has now explained that he was stifling his giggles out of relief more than anything else.
Gosling was on stage with the rest of the La La Land cast and producers at February’s Academy Awards, when a few minutes in to their time proceedings were halted and confusion reigned for a few moments before it was announced that Moonlight had actually won the Best Picture gong.
But the 36 year old star was not just covering up his disappointment when he started giggling at the whole thing.

“What really was happening as I was watching, it was surreal anyway, I was watching people start to have this panicked reaction in the crowd and guys were coming on with headsets and I felt like someone had been hurt,” he told the Adobe Summit in Las Vegas on Wednesday (March 22nd).

“I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst-case scenario playing out in my head,” he added. “And then I just heard Moonlight won and I was so relieved that I started laughing.”
Furthermore, he didn’t bear any hard feelings that La La Land, which was nominated for 14 Oscars and had been widely tipped to sweep the board, lost out to another film in this case, as he’s a great admirer of Moonlight.
“Truthfully, I was also so thrilled that Moonlight won. I know the director [Barry Jenkins] … I’ve worked with them before,” he explains. “It’s such a ground-breaking film, made for only a million dollars, and incredible achievement and I’m so happy for them that they were being recognized.”
