Ryan Reynolds was forced to have a “strongly worded” conversation with one of his childhood friends after he discovered he was trying to sell his daughter’s baby pictures.
Ryan Reynolds became a father in December of last year. With broken sleep, it’s a difficult time physically for any new parent but Reynolds also had to contend with an emotional blow when he discovered his childhood friend was trying to make a quick buck by shopping pictures of his new-born daughter to media outlets.

Reynolds managed to intervene before the pictures were released but, speaking in an interview with GQ, Reynolds described the emotional impact his unnamed friend’s actions had on him.
“A guy that I’d known for my whole life, one of my closest friends growing up, he had been shopping pictures of my baby around,” Reynolds explained. “I kind of got in front of it, which is good. But it was a slightly dark period. A bad couple of weeks.”
Reynolds was also asked if he had ever been betrayed before and he explained he hadn’t, which is why his friend’s betrayal was so hurtful.
“It was like a death,” Reynolds said. “It was like one of those devastating things to find out.”
Reynolds, when learning of the photographs being shopping around, was able to work out who the culprit was as there was only a “narrow group of people” he sends family photographs to.
“I mean, I don’t think he thought he would ever be caught,” Reynolds continued. “But it’s a pretty narrow group of people that I would send photos like that to. They’re just, like, my closest family and my closest friends: ‘Here’s us in the delivery room!’”
38-year-old Deadpool actor further explained how he had had a “strongly worded” conversation with his friend about the pictures. Unfortunately, it appears the damage to their friendship was already done and Reynolds described the exchange he and his former friend had.
“There isn’t really a conversation to have,” Reynolds explained. “It’s just, ‘Oh, well, now I’m never going to see you or talk to you again, unfortunately.’ That’s kind of how it worked out.”
It appears Reynolds’ friend was only interested in the money he could gain from the photographs and, at one time, his friendship with Reynolds.
“Well, I think he’d asked for a check enough times where I was like, ‘There’s no more checks to be had.’” Reynolds said when asked if he had offered his friend the offer of financial support.
Reynolds’ daughter, James, with Age of Adaline actor Blake Lively was born in December 2014. The couple have attempted to keep their child out of the public eye and the interview with GQ was the first time Reynolds has opened up about fatherhood. Neither Reynolds nor Lively have yet to share a picture of James’ face on social media, although she is pictured with them.
