ITV2 had been the home of 'The Xtra Factor' for 13 years.
Rylan Clark-Neal and Matt Edmondson have both lost their jobs today, as ITV announced that ‘The Xtra Factor’ – the ‘X Factor’ support show hosted by the pair last year – was being axed in favour of a digital spin-off.
“’The X Factor’ is our biggest ITV entertainment show, in terms of online engagement. We have taken the decision to move away from a linear switchover show, and instead focus our efforts on our digital platforms, in support of the main show,” an ITV spokesperson told The Mirror on Wednesday (January 18th).
‘The Xtra Factor’ was launched on ITV2 thirteen years ago, and helped launch showbiz careers for the likes of Holly Willoughby, Fearne Cotton and Caroline Flack.

Appearing on 'This Morning', Bunton said that Victoria is in favour of a reunion without her - and that she might even change her mind about getting involved.
The pop star turned radio presenter was interviewed on ‘This Morning’ on Wednesday (August 24th), and said that she recently spoke to the fashion designer at her husband David’s 40th birthday party. Although she has remained insistent that she’s focussing on her new career, Bunton said that Victoria is prone to changing her mind and may even decide to come on board after all.

The latest series kicks off on Thursday and the rumour mill is in overdrive.
This series of ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ promises some “brilliant” housemates whose names haven't even hit the rumour mill yet, according to ‘Bit on the Side’ host Rylan Clark. The new series kicks off on Thursday and already names including 'TOWIE's' Lewis Bloor, Katie Waissel, Lil’ Kim and David Cassidy have all been rumoured, with Christopher Biggins joining the list today.
Is Christopher Biggins headed into 'Celebrity Big Brother'?
Appearing on ‘This Morning’, Rylan was shown pictures of the rumoured names and pressed for any info by hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford. But Rylan refused to give any confirmation, telling the hosts: “No I wouldn't tell you nothing.”
Rylan Clark thinks the 70's pop star would be the “perfect housemate”.
David Cassidy is one of the names heavily rumoured to be taking part in this year’s Celebrity Big Brother, which starts in just over a week. While nothing’s been confirmed, ‘Big Brother’s Bit On The Side’ host Rylan Clark did discuss the rumours on ‘This Morning’ and described Cassidy as “the perfect housemate.”
Is David Cassidy going into the ‘Celebrity Big Brother' House?
Chatting to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford about the upcoming series, Clark reminded them of Cassidy’s infamous ‘This Morning’ appearance last year. “You had a nice little guest on the show last year didn’t you? David Cassidy,” he asked the pair.

The 'This Morning' showbiz correspondent will be teaming up with Edmondson to present ITV2 spin-off show 'The Xtra Factor' later this year.
The news was teased during Friday morning’s edition of ‘This Morning’, when hosts Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby gave Clark-Neal a bit of a ribbing during his showbiz news bulletin. When he announced that Edmondson would be one of the hosts, Philip and Holly jumped in and said that there might be “more legs” to the story – leaving him momentarily silenced before moving on.
Rylan Clark-Neal will be Matt Edmondson's co-host on 'The Xtra Factor'
Amid rumours that there might be TWO 'Big Brother' houses this year, Rylan told fans to keep following the show's social media accounts.
‘Big Brother's Bit On the Side’ host Rylan Clark-Neal has teased a potentially significant format change to the reality TV mainstay, although he has begged his fans to stop asking him for more housemate news on social media after revealing the new contestants were going “into hiding”.
The showbiz presenter – and former winner of 'Celebrity Big Brother' in 2011 – appeared on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ on Wednesday (June 1st) to hint that a big twist to the long-running show was in the pipeline, and told fans to keep their eyes glued to Twitter for the latest news.
At the same time, he also said that he had almost revealed too much and that he wouldn’t be commenting on any further news until the new series begins next week, on Tuesday June 7th on Channel 5.
Caroline Flack and Olly Murs had been rumoured to be on the way out of 'The X Factor' after only one series, with 'Big Brother's Emma Willis and Rylan Clark floated as replacements.
Reports emerged last Friday (December 11th), first reported by the Daily Star, indicated that Simon Cowell was in the mood to shake up the ITV show ahead of the 2016 edition. Murs, 31, and Flack, 36, have co-presented for just one series, after they replaced long-time host Dermot O’Leary earlier this year.
Caroline Flack could be on her way out as presenter of 'The X Factor', if reports are true
Margaret Thatcher's death has incited plenty of views on Twitter.
A website titled "Is Margaret Thatcher Dead?" has received a slew of criticism in recent years for its tasteless daily updates of whether or not the Baroness had passed away. Nevertheless, the website finally showed a huge YES today as reports came in that the former Prime Minister died from a stroke. She was the first female prime minister when she entered Downing Street in 1979.
Though the intellectuals, historians and biographers are having their say on Thatcher's legacy, the celebrities were also weighing in on her passing - among them, Harry Styles. The One Direction star came out as a Labour supporter last year, though he paid tribute to the former Tory leader in a tweeting this morning, saying, "RIP Baroness Thatcher.x" He and his One Direction pals buddied up with Prime Minister David Cameron for their Comic Relief campaign earlier this year.
Geri Halliwell, who has made no secret of her love for Thatcher, was another celebrity to pay tribute, saying, "Thinking of our 1st Lady of girl power ,Margaret Thatcher , a green grocer's daughter who taught me any thing is possible...x"

If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again. Rylan Clark may not have the talent to write timeless lyrics like that, or even win The X-Factor, but he proved he had what it takes to entertain Celebrity Big Brother views to finally win a reality show.
Speaking to host Brian Dowling, Clark said: "Honestly, through the past year, people have been picking up the phone for me and I really appreciate it." He's not wrong, but given that he's appeared in two high-profile shows, it's not the greatest of achievements. But fair play to Rylan, after the disappointment of an X-Factor boot out, it must have taken a lot to thrust himself back into the public eye. Perhaps a lot of money, we don't know. "They hated me three months ago. I've been the biggest fan of Big Brother." And Speaking about his nemesis Speidi, he said: 'I don't have any ties to Heidi and Spencer, but they're a genuine couple. I wish them the best of luck in life. They are absolutely made for each other.
"The reason I came on this show is to show people who got me wrong. You can call me whatever you want, but don't ever call me fake," he added. "One thing they gave me in the house was a headache."
x factor has come under fire from Ofcom regulators for the excessive appearance of the ultra-posh Corinthia Hotel overlooking the Thames, reports the Guardian.
X Factor producers, by showing the hotel repeatedly, gave it 'undue prominence' which is in breach of programming in the UK. Although the show wasn't paid for its featuring in a couple of episodes, they did receive discounted rates for the contestants to stay there - which undoubtedly was taken gratefully as it's normally £3000 per night!
One episode saw the contestants moving into the Hotel which saw winner James Arthur exclaiming about their rooms, and Rylan Clark (currently a contestant in Celebrity Big Brother) gush over the size and quality of the hotel, saying: "It's absolutely amazing here ... I've never really seen anything like it to be honest. It's a million miles away from the place I live back home ... Oh my god James, it's massive! There's a phone in the toilet!"

Heidi Montag opened up about her regrets on telling the public about her plastic surgery whilst relaxing in a Jacuzzi with Rylan on 'Celebrity Big Brother'.
The former 'The Hills' star rose to fame following her 10 surgical procedures that she once had in the space of one day. However, looking back on media reports about her, she wishes that she had been more 'private' about the ops which included rhinoplasty, breast implants, liposuction and chin reduction. 'I kind of wish I'd never talked about it and that I'd kept it more private', she told former 'X Factor' contestant and housemate Rylan Clark whilst winding down in the house hot tub on Monday (January 7th 2013). Rylan seemed very curious about surgeries. 'So you'd had a lot of surgeries?' He asked her. 'Yeah I did, it was just when I was young. I wanted it and I just got a few things done, and then I got a few more things done', she replied.
Despite Rylan's reassuring comments that she looked 'brilliant', Heidi insisted that telling the papers 'backfired' on her and she even lost contact with her mother. 'I didn't talk to my family for two years and I never thought that would happen to me, me and my mum were like best friends growing up', she confessed. She also admitted that TV 'changed' her and reflected that, 'I should have just stood up for myself.'

The new series of the reality show started last night (January 3rd 2013) with 'X Factor' 2012 contestant Rylan Clark and jockey Frankie Dettori being the first to arrive. They were tasked with deciding which celebrity from each pair that arrived would be cast into the darkness of the basement and which would enjoy the house luxuries. Former Volkswagen model Paula was selected for the basement instead of 'Heartbeat' star Tricia Penrose.
However, it was only hours before Paula complained that she was feeling a 'little ill' and was advised to re-enter the main house by the BB doctor. Just how ill she is is uncertain; certainly, she doesn't seem sick enough to have to leave the house, but she has struggled with alcohol dependency for a large chunk of her life, even being turned away from the show in previous years for failing psychiatric tests according to TV psychologist Jo Hemmings who worked on the show when it aired on Channel 4. 'Paula Hamilton - because sending an alcoholic who failed her C4 psych tests three years ago is SUCH a good idea... #cbb', she wrote on Twitter.
We can just imagine Frankie Dettori talking Lindsay Lohan through his epic Gold Cup win on Colour Vision at Royal Ascot last year, or the Hollywood star telling the jockey about her latest film The Canyons. Yep, this is shaping up to be the most bizarre Celebrity Big Brother in history.
The whole thing kicks off tonight (January 3, 2012) and although Chanel 5 have refused to reveal the identities of the stars lined up to appear, friends of Dettori have confirmed to the Daily Telegraph that he will be taking part. Lindsay Lohan has been in London for several days now, seemingly for no good reason.

It seems the producers of this year’s Celebrity Big Brother are masters of disguise! There was no telling who it was being whisked into a London hotel today, because their identity was being hidden with the most cunning of disguises… a towel! Yes, that’s right. All that time and money spent on the show and all they had left in the budget was enough to buy a towel to hide the identity of their contestants. Well, we are in a recession, after all.
The Daily Mail have published snaps of the CBB 2013 contestant being led into the hotel, ahead of the show, which begins tomorrow but the producers have done a good job so far of keeping the details of who’s going in under wraps. Literally, in this case, as they walked in with a towel around them. Rumoured to be taking part though, is Lindsay Lohan, who seems to have arrived in London for no good reason and Rylan the former X Factor contestant, who would bring the “loud, camp and boisterous” factor that host Brian Dowling is craving.
Dowling told new! magazine that he’d love Rylan to be one of the housemates and also revealed that he’s love Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt (stars of US reality show The Hills) to be in the house because “they're so crazy. It's like they would do almost anything to get some attention.” They sound like perfect candidates for CBB 2013, then!
The rumours have already started for the 2013 series of Celebrity Big Brother.
So who do we think will end up in the house of horror this time around? It feels almost certain that X Factor reject and all round celebrity wannabe Rylan will make an appearance but according to STV, he also wants to be selected to take part in the X Factor tour, which would stop him going on the reality TV show.
He’ll be pretty sad, then, if the other rumour is true and his buddy Katie Price takes up the offer. The former glamour model, who is certainly no stranger to the world of reality TV, is also rumoured to have an offer on the table, as is the former Steps singer Claire Richards. So far, so hellish, right? Other celebs rumoured to have been asked to join the house include Bruce Jones, aka Les Battersby from Coronation Street and the MP Nadine Dorries. Sure though… SURELY Dorries has more sense than to go on yet another reality show so soon? Or will the lure of ‘fame’ (and fortune) prove too much for ego to turn down?
Rylan Clark finally left the X Factor last weekend, having been booted out after weeks of controversy and almost never getting positive reviews for his performances. However, despite not having the strongest voice in the competition, clearly ITV saw other talents and less than a week after he exited the show they've offered him a job on their morning daily show, 'DayBreak'.
He'll be filling in for Richard Arnold who covers all the showbiz news for the program. "I can't believe it! I only left X Factor a week ago and now I'm joining Lorraine and Aled on the Daybreak sofa." Rylan said, reports the Mirror, "I'm a massive fan of the show and it's going to be so much fun sharing all the showbiz news and gossip with the nation each morning... I'm looking forward to keeping Richard's seat warm while he's swanning off on holiday, but I won't be asking for any dancing tips just yet!"
Richard Arnold congratulated the young singer, in response to Rylan's post, saying: "The wonderful thing about this hurly burly business we call show[biz] is that you know ultimately you will one day be replaced by someone younger, thinner and in this case much taller than you. I wish Rylan all the best in his new role at Daybreak." You can catch him in action from 7:50am on Monday morning (Dec. 3rd) and all next week on ITV1.
Here’s one for the doubters… you all thought you’d seen the last of Rylan, didn’t you, when he got booted off x factor? Well, we’ve got news for you, today (November 30, 2012). There IS life after X Factor after all, for the precisely-bearded Essex babe.
That’s right, folks, Rylan has landed his dream job, just a week after he was kicked off the talent show, for having no discernible… oh, well, it doesn’t matter why he was kicked off the show, what matters now is that he has landed his dream job… well, it might not EXACTLY be his dream job, but it’s a job! In the public eye! What more could Rylan Clark have asked possibly asked for? (that’s a serious question by the way). Rylan will be taking over from Richard Arnold on ITV1’s Daybreak, starting from Monday. Okay, so he’s only doing it for a week, but hey, it’ll keep the Jobcentre off your back for at least a week, eh Rylan?
Richard Arnold decided that he needed to tale a break from presenting the entertainment news on the popular morning show and Rylan was chuffed to be asked to fill his shoes, report Entertainmentwise. “I can't believe it! I only left X Factor a week ago and now I'm joining Lorraine and Aled on the Daybreak sofa! I’m a massive fan of the show and it’s going to be so much fun sharing all the showbiz news and gossip with the nation each morning,” he said. Just don’t get to comfy on that sofa, eh, Rylan?
JLS have some stern words of advice for this year’s X Factor contestants.
Well, they have some words of advice for some of this year’s X factor contestants. It wasn’t too hard to figure out who they were aiming their words of wisdom at, exactly. Step forward, Rylan Clark and Lucy Spraggan, for you have been singled out as this year’s troublemakers.

Rylan Clark of X-Factor fame could barely count his detractors on scientific calculator, but he can tot up his supporters on his right hand. One of those supporters happens to be one of the most prominent voices in the U.K today: Amy Childs, Entertainmentwise reports.
"I got on with him from day one, I had loads in common with him. He loves to chat and rings me up for advice," Amy told Digital Spy. "He's not the best singer, he knows this, but he's got The X Factor. He's got banter, he's got the fun element and that's what X Factor needs," the glamour model continued. "There are people in there who have got amazing voices." Amy said that Rylan's critics "take it very seriously," and believes that they should "chill out and think". She thinks that The X Factor would be a bit dull without Rylan. "I wait for Rylan thinking, 'Oh my God, what song's he going to do?' I probably speak for quite a few people here."
Rylan's inexplicable presence on The X-Factor represents a scathing indictment of the talent on show today, and has lead to him receiving myriad insults online, but according to Amy, Rylan's "loving his life and he's making the most of what he's doing." Yeah.

The X Factor has - once again - found itself at the centre of a 'fixing' scandal after a producer on the show was spotted crouching beside judge Louis Walsh, appearing to relay information ahead of the evening's tense judges' vote.
Country singer Carolynne Pool and the flamboyant, if heavily criticised Rylan Clark, had found themselves in the bottom two on Sunday (Oct 7), forcing them to sing for survival. Yorkshire-born Carolynne offered a reasonably pleasant rendition of Faith Hill's 'There You'll Be', though the talking-point of the performance came when cameras panned over the judging desk where a producer was seen whispering to Louis Walsh. Afterwards, the Irish-manager appeared give Carolynne his vote, though when asked to clarify his decision by host Dermot O'Leary he opted to save Rylan and therefore take the vote to deadlock, where the female singer lost out.
Head judge Gary Barlow appeared so disgusted by the result that he walked of the set, while speculation began to flare online that the plan was always to have Rylan advance to next week's show. Speaking on Radio Aire Breakfast with Rich and Naomi this week, Carolynne said she had noticed the conversation whilst singing, ".it was a bit off putting to be honest..." she added.
