The inaugural BBC Music Awards will burst onto our screens this evening with a whole host of talent lighting up the stage. The event is offering three awards to the best in the music business including Song of the Year, British Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year.

Members of the public have been tasked with deciding who will claim the best song of 2014 and have been voting for one of ten possibilities which feature tunes from Sam Smith, Pharrell Williams, Clean Bandit and Coldplay among others.

The shortlisted tracks have been chosen as they have had the most airplay across the BBC’s music radio and television networks over the past 12 months.

The star-studded ceremony is being held at Earl’s Court in London and Calvin Harris, One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Paloma Faith are all taking to the stage to show what British music has got to offer with Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton playing host.

David Bowie, Jungle, Sam Smith, Royal Blood, Elbow and Ed Sheeran have all been nominated for British Artist of the Year.

The fight for International Artist of the Year is between Pharrell Williams, Taylor Swift, Gregory Porter, Lorde, Dolly Parton and Prince.
