Seemingly not content with his domination of the charts in both Britain and the States, Sam Smith is extending his talents into the world of fashion with the announcement that he’s to create his own clothing line.

The multi-Grammy and Brit Award winner revealed that he would be collaborating with designers at Balenciaga, posting the news via his Instagram account in a short video on Wednesday evening (July 15th). The short clip indicates that the 23 year old singer won’t just be modelling, but also actively involved with the design.

Bearing the hashtag #BALXSAMSMITH, it shows Smith walking slowly towards the camera wearing glasses and his recognisable quiff. He asked his followers: “Ladies and gentlemen. The time has come for my first ever collaboration with a fashion house. You ready?”

“So honoured and ecstatic to announce my collaboration with @BALENCIAGA on the upcoming autumn/winter menswear collection! You'll be able to see my full campaign very soon. So happy.” By the looks of things, it will be a pretty sophisticated range.

Clearly, Smith is wasting no time in throwing himself back into action after his recent enforced lay-off because of throat surgery. In April, Smith had to cancel a number of dates on his tour of Australia and the Far East after he was diagnosed with a vocal cord haemorrhage. Recovery from the surgery meant he couldn’t speak for nearly three weeks, and he only made his live comeback earlier in July.

He also used Instagram to update fans on how his voice was doing, posting on Wednesday evening: “I have been in Boston the last few days to have a check up on my throat, before I embark on my American tour. MY THROAT IS LOOKING BL**** FANTASTIC. So it's amazing news. So happy. It's going to be a really tough month of shows but I can't wait to see you all, and pray it's going to be a smooth ride.”
