Sam Smith has taken the top spot in both the official UK singles and albums chart this week, along with setting a new record as the only male solo artist whose album has achieved six different spells at number one in Official Chart history.

Smith’s In the Lonely Hour reclaimed the top spot in the album chart this week, knocking Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds’ Chasing Yesterday down to fourth place. The singer managed to beat off some tough competition to grab the top spot, including the latest offering from Madonna, Rebel Heart, which debut in the number two position.

Despite being released over nine months ago Ed Sheeran’s X is still riding high in the album chart, this week taking the number three position. Rounding off the top five albums list is George Ezra’s Wanted on Voyage which this week finds itself in fifth place.

In the singles chart Smith’s ‘Lay Me Down’ featuring John Legend has come straight in at number one. The song is this year’s official Red Nose Day single, with proceeds adding to the £78,082,988 already raised by Comic Relief so far this year.

King’s ‘Years & Years’ has dropped one place to take the number two position this week, while Flo Rida has gone straight in at number three with GDFR featuring Sage the Gemin.

In the number four place is Ellie Goulding with ‘Love Me Like You Do’ from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, while Rihanna and her team of Kanye West and Paul McCartney round out the top five with 'FourFiveSeconds'.
