Whilst conspiracy theorists are still mulling over whether Adele and Sam Smith are in fact the same person, Smith has decided that a dose of self-love is in order on their latest single - 'Love Me More'. Whether or not you're convinced by the argument that Sam and Ms Adkins have never been seen in the same room, or that when slowed down, 'Hello' sounds like it was sung by Mr Smith, 'Love Me More' doesn't sound a great deal like divorcee Adele.
Talking about their new track - 'Stay With Me' artist Sam said - "I wrote this song for anyone who feels different, anyone who has to stop themselves every day from saying unkind things to themselves, in their head, all the time...I felt like that for the longest time and slowly I’m learning how to just be nice to myself. I wanted to share that because I captured it in this song. Over the last two years, music has been my therapy more than ever. So I hope this song can be your friend."
'Love Me More' is Sam's first single release of 2022 and their first since they released 'You Will Be Found' with Summer Walker back in September of last year. The song is co-written by Smith, Mikkel S. Eriksen and Tor Hermansen of Stargate and Jimmy Napes and was produced by Stargate and Napes. Ahead of the release Sam said of the collaboration that - "There’s something really beautiful and serendipitous about us coming together and making this record".
The video to accompany 'Love Me More' uses archive footage of Sam Smith from his very early childhood upwards before it cuts to a black and white sequence showing Sam relaxed at home. As the song begins the visuals open up to reveal a street scene as Smith sings - "Have you ever felt like being somebody else, Feeling like the mirror isn’t good for your health, Every day I’m trying not to hate myself, But lately it’s not hurting like it did before, Maybe I am learning how to love me more".
Spoiler alert! Sam's latest may have you reaching for the Kleenex, it's a full on autobiographical tear jerker.
