Many publications have put the news out that Samuel L. Jackson – who played Mace Windu in the last (first) three Star Wars movies – is too busy to make a return to the franchise.

But by the simple act of reading the quotes, one can ascertain the truth: Sam Jackson has said he hasn’t received a call yet, and that if he doesn’t get the call, he has stuff that he can be getting on with anyway. Key words there: yet, if and can.

Take a look for yourself. When asked if he wanted a part in the new trilogy, Jackson replied, “No, not really – I thought I did and it would’ve been interesting. But if I don’t get the call, I have so many things going on that I can do. Hopefully that new era of Star Wars films will be as popular as the ones that we did and the ones that were done before.”

Star Wars Episode VII is in the throws if production right now, and while it’s certainly unlikely that Jackson will be making a return to the franchise, his comments on Lorraine don’t confirm one thing or another.

What’s more, we certainly know Jackson is fond of his time on the sci-fi movies. Back in 2012 he suggested he’d come back as anything just to be a part of the new adventure.

“I can come back as one-armed or a one-handed Jedi that’s still around that didn’t actually die. [I could] be a ghost hologram. I don’t care. I just want to stay associated with the franchise. Not that I won’t because I’ve been in three of them.”
