Jane 'Calamity' Bodine makes the brave move to come out of retirement as a top political consultant, despite having been responsible for one of the most catastrophic campaigns in history. It's time to put the past behind her and learn from her mistakes, by tackling her latest cause; a presidential candidate in Bolivia is desperate to win the 2002 election, but currently remains unpopular with the people of the country who are suffering in the delicate political and economic state. It's Bodine's job, along with the rest of an American strategist team, to help boost his numbers, but unfortunately for her the opposition has selected an all too familiar team to help them led by Bodine's long-time rival Pat Candy. Determined to finally beat him in the political stakes, she has her team spy on the other candidate's campaign and exploits the struggles of the people to give her client an emotional advantage. However, Bodine's soon made to realise that her attitude towards the job is seriously affecting her compassion for the people who are genuinely suffering, and she can't stay detached for long.

Minions conquered the U.S. and Canadian Box Office this weekend (10th-12th July), raking in an incredible $115.2 million. The movie, which cost $74 million to make, has already made a substantial profit of just under $40 million.
Minions, the spin-off from the hugely popular Despicable Me films, has surpassed the earnings from the opening weekend of Despicable Me ($56.4 million) but hasn’t quite managed to beat the $142.1 million its sequel made when it was released in 2013. Both films have gone on to make huge profits. Despicable Me earned $543-million worldwide and the second film earned $970.7.
It’s hardly surprising the opening weekend of Minions has been so success. Universal Pictures has used some fairly hard sell tactics to ensure it’s the film everyone’s talking about. With adverts everywhere online and even a seemingly swearing Minions Happy Meal toy available in McDonald’s, it’s been difficult to avoid seeing these little yellow creatures.
McDonald’s have no intention of recalling their Minions Happy Meal toys despite claims the toys sound as if they are using obscene language.
McDonald’s is adamant those Minions Happy Meal toys aren’t really swearing at children. Controversy arose this week when parents shared videos of their children’s Happy Meal toys seemingly saying ‘what the f**k. Some of the videos, uploaded on YouTube, have been watched millions of times. However, McDonald’s has no intention of recalling the toys despite widespread distaste and a number of complaints.
The Minions movie is out in cinemas now.

So it seems actors like not having to worry about their image while recording for an animated movie.
For the Despicable Me prequel Minions, filmmaker Pierre Coffin had no trouble finding A-list actors to voice characters because so many are fans of the earlier films. And most are looking for the freedom offered by starring in an animated movie.
Voicing characters is much simpler than performing onscreen
Jon Hamm voices the groovy inventor Herb, married to super-villain Scarlet Overkill (who's voiced by Sandra Bullock). He loved creating an all-new character. "You're not constrained by what you look like or what haircut you're stuck with from whatever thing you just finished filming," he says. "Part of it for me was getting the artist's rendering of the character. I was like, 'Oh wow, that guy looks so cool. I wonder what he sounds like.' And then messing around with voices in your head like a crazy person, or like a child basically. You know, things I do normally in my day-to-day life, like I talk to my dog, I talk to myself. It's really fun and it's completely creative. And when you're working with people who are also incredibly collaborative too, they're just like, 'Go!' So you get to go."

Utterly charming, this silly prequel rewrites the origin story of the minions and sends them on a series of adventures that are gently anarchic and refreshingly low-key for an animated blockbuster. The film has an unusually gentle tone, with some real visual artistry to it rather than the cookie-cutter story structure and imagery in most summer movies. And while it's not riotously funny, children will be mesmerised and adults will be smiling.
It opens at the dawn of time, as minions evolve into yellow pill-shaped sidekicks who serve their evil masters throughout history. When they find themselves without a leader, they try to build a society in an arctic cave, but something just isn't right. So Kevin, Stuart and Bob (voiced in Esperanto-style gibberish by director Pierre Coffin) head off to 1968 New York to find a villain to work for. There they hear about ruthless baddie Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock), so they head to Villain-Con in Orlando to meet her. She's impressed by their loyalty and takes them to London to work with her inventor husband Herb (Jon Hamm) on a nefarious plan to steal the British crown from the Queen (Jennifer Saunders). But nothing goes quite as planned.
Since it's set in the 1960s, the filmmakers give the film a groovy vibe, with sun-drenched animation and hilariously colourful details in every scene. Adults are more likely to catch references to things like the Monkees, Hair or Bewitched, but kids will enjoy the general silliness, including lots of chances to sing along with the minions as they babble through classic tunes. Thankfully, directors Coffin and Kyle Balda resist temptation to use the standard animation formula, opting instead for a meandering pace, a less pushy moral message and action scenes that emerge from the plot, settings and characters. And the starry voice cast refreshingly disappears into the characters.

The actress admits there were similarities between her and Scarlett Overkill.
Sandra Bullock doesn't often get to play the villain in a movie, so she was thrilled to land the role as the dastardly Scarlett Overkill in Minions, the animated spin-off prequel to Despicable Me.
"She's more like me than anything else I've been in," Bullock laughs. "She's evil, she's crabby and a little bit bitchy - all the traits that I think make for a good villainness. It's so good to be bad. And I got paid for it!"
The minions have their own movie!

Melissa McCarthy made a name for herself in 'Bridesmaids', and is now getting a chance to hold a movie up on her name alone.
Melissa McCarthy's new action-comedy 'Spy' marks a leap in her career from supporting goofball (she was Oscar nominated for 'Bridesmaids') to co-lead (alongside Sandra Bullock in 'The Heat') and now to carrying a major blockbuster on her own shoulders. It's no coincidence that all three of these movies are directed by Paul Feig, a filmmaker who has long thought that more films should be centred on strong, funny women.

McCarthy grew up in Illinois, and describes her family as "a bunch of funny men who think women are really funny. I didn't grow up with a sense that people thought any differently."

The Gravity star emerged as top of Hollywood's female earners, but just how did she reach this accolade?
The results of Forbes annual celebrity rich list are in and it is with a certain amount of surprise thatSandra Bullockwas the highest paid film star of the past year. Bullock raked in over $51 million (that just over £30 million) and it seems that the 50 year-old has made some very shrewd decisions over the past years over which films she attached her name to, and not all of them looked like sure-fire box-office smashes, on paper at least.
Sandra's box-office success has exerted a gravitational pull on all cash in her vicinity.
Gravity, directed by Alfonso Cuaron and also starring George Clooney, cost a whopping $100 million to produce thanks to its almost exclusive reliance on extensive special effects. Yet the film excelled with audiences and critics alike, scooping seven Oscars as well as a host of BAFTA’s. Bullock also duly received an Oscar nomination for her role as the astronaut caught in a potentially catastrophic disaster in Earth’s orbit. Gravity drew $716 million in global box-office takings, awarding Bullock and co-star Clooney a tidy sum for their efforts which included a gruelling shooting experience whereupon the leading duo were suspended from wires and trapped in claustrophobic space suits.
