Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review

Very Good

This is the Marvel movie that divides the fans from the casual filmgoers, as the movies become more like a TV series in which the world is saved from disaster every week. While it's shot and acted to an unusually high standard, the script treats the characters like pawns to throw at each other rather than real human beings. So while it's hugely entertaining, there isn't a hint of actual tension or suspense.

Now settling into life in the 21st century, super-powered soldier Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and his cohort Natasha (Scarlett Johansson) are horrified when the mysterious, seemingly indestructible Winter Soldier launches an attack on Shield Director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) on the streets of Washington DC. Suspected of being on the wrong side, Steve and Natasha set out to find out what's up, drafting in angry veteran Sam (Anthony Mackie) and his whizzy flying-wings accessory. Meanwhile, Shield boss Pierce (Robert Redford) is carrying on with launching a wildly heavy-handed security system for America.

Marvel show-runner Kevin Feige works hard to make these movies fit loosely into the overarching mythology while standing on their own. But this is the ninth time these superheroes have had to save the world since 2008's Iron Man, and it's getting a bit tired. This chapter introduces a perviously unseen darkness in the evil agency Hydra, but the real innovation here is the use of gritty Bourne-style direction for the lucid action sequences.

First Look At 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron': Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, And Hawkeye

Last week we saw the Avengers: Age of Ultron brother-sister duo Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in Marvel's concept art but thanks to newly released on-set photos, we have been able to catch a glimpse of Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor Johnson as their superhero alter-egos filming an action scene in Italy, via Getty Images/Comic Book Resources.

The brand new snaps also afford us the opportunity to have a gander at the sequel's main villain, Ultron, who appeared in pre-CGI form as a sinister looking silver robot. Hilariously, the actor performing the movements of the baddie was photographed wearing a thick puffer jacker underneath his high tech silver scales and helmet; a feature that will be digitally erased when it comes to editing.

Scarlett Johansson Urges Marvel To Develop 'Black Widow' Movie

Scarlett Johansson Chris Evans Kevin Feige

Scarlett Johansson has added her name to the list of those wanting a Black Widow spin-off movie. Considering the actress has starred as Natasha Romanoff and her alter ego in Iron Man 2, The Avengers and most recently Captain America: The Winter Soldier - we'd consider that a pretty strong recommendation.

'Under The Skin' Is Remarkable, So Why Was It Booed At The Premiere?

Scarlett Johansson

At the peak of her success, Scarlett Johansson made the startling decision to play a man-eating alien in the tiny Scottish thriller Under the Skin. Hot off Marvel blockbusters like Iron Man and The Avengers, she played a prowling killer roaming the streets of Glasgow. Shot with hidden cameras and extras who didn't know they were in the movie, the film also required her to get naked on-screen for the first time.

Notoriously private, Johansson knew that this film was something special. "It's not like I want to be displaying myself all over the place, but I think I that through the process of just letting go I realised what kind of judgment I place on myself," she says. "That wasn't just the nudity, but many different situations where I wasn't totally free of myself. So it was very liberating."

Under The Skin Review

Extraordinary

Scarlett Johansson goes off the radar in this low-budget Scottish thriller, which is far more offbeat than anything she's ever done before. Her fans are likely to be perplexed by the film's lack of any meaningful dialog, its ambiguous plot and relentlessly artful imagery. But inventive filmmaker Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast) has created one of the most atmospheric sci-fi horror movies in recent memory.

Just outside Glasgow, an alien creature assumes the shape of a woman (Johansson) and starts prowling the city streets in search of men. With disarming flirtation, she sparks the sexual appetites of a series of guys, luring them into her inky lair, where they're trapped like bugs in a roach motel. But some unexpected events get her thinking about human sexuality, so she decides to explore it herself. With the next guy, she has a go at romance, and then later she puts herself into a startlingly vulnerable situation. But by going off the grid, she alerts her alien cohorts that something isn't quite right.

By refusing to use standard storytelling or filmmaking techniques, Glazer has made a movie that feels like it comes from outer space. But while we never get a grip on any of the characters, we can easily identify with the yearning emotions they're feeling. Which draws us in on a deeper level than we expect. In this respect, Johansson's performance is unusually subdued. Setting her glamorous Hollywood image aside, she becomes a lost soul who almost looks frumpy (she's still gorgeous enough to get any man she wants), and her search for meaning in human sexuality is fascinating.

Congratulations to Scarlett Johansson, who has apparently managed to sneak this one past all the gossip mags and is… pregnant. Her Review

Extraordinary

With only a hint of a futuristic setting, Spike Jonze takes a remarkably honest look at human emotions as a man and his computer's intelligent operating system fall madly in love with each other. Utterly grounded in believable characters and situations, this is a boldly inventive exploration of how we connect with each other. It's also one of the most involving, witty and evocative movies of the year.

It's set just a few years into the future, when we've essentially done away with keyboards and talk to our phones and computers. So Theodore (Phoenix) works in a company that writes letters for people who want a more tactile way of communicating. While trying not to let his recent divorce from Caroline (Mara) influence his work, his friends (Adams and Letscher) set him up on a blind date with a sexy woman (Wilde). But he's not quite ready to move on until he begins opening up to his new interactive operative system, which calls herself Samantha (voiced by Johansson). And she has such an open-hearted personality that Theodore can't help but fall for her.

The film has a breezy, fable-like tone that allows heavy themes to emerge without weighing us down. Indeed, the central idea is that relationships are difficult because we can't help but evolve individually, which sometimes means drifting apart. Obviously, this has huge ramifications when your partner is a limitless computer mind that will never stop expanding. But Theodore doesn't want to think about this; he is frightened by the idea that Samantha is changing. Yes, despite the vaguely surreal premise, the film is packed with things we readily identify with.

Scarlett Johansson Gets The Open Letter Treatment From Roger Waters

Her
Her might not be the most prominent Oscar contender, but it is still one helluva movie

First off we were treated to a Phillip Seymour Hoffman-featuring parody of the new Spike Jonze movie Her, one that used cut-up snippets of the Oscar-winner's film repertoire in place of Scarlett Johansson's soothing utterances. Last night (25 Jan.) we saw Jonah Hill lampoon the film on Saturday Night Live, but earlier this week we're sure the best parody of them all was uploaded on to YouTube.

'Him' doesn't actually star any big names, but it does feature one heck of a good impression of the loveable Canadian comic Seth Rogen. The YouTube channel Paul Gale Comedy created and uploaded the parody, which pokes fun at the Oscar contender as well as gently ribbing Rogen, mocking his penchant for da 'erb and also mirroring his distinctive laugh spot on. It's probably the best portrayal of Seth Rogen since Seth Rogen played Seth Rogen in This Is The End.

Spike Jonze's off-beat romantic-drama Her was unexpectedly named best film of the year by the National Board of Review on Wednesday (December 4, 2013). The long-established and well respected educational organisation also gave Jonze the best director award for the movie, which stars Joaquin Phoenix as an office worker who falls in love with his computer system, voiced by Scarlett Johansson.

Jonze also wrote the script, but was denied an awards hattrick when the NBR's best original screenplay award went to the Coen Brothers for Inside Llewyn Davis. The Martin Scorsese-directed The Wolf of Wall Street took the award for best adapted screenplay, capping an evening of surprise winners that must all now be mentioned in Oscars discussions. Until now, the likes of 12 Years a Slave, Gravity and Captain Phillips had dominated nominations talk, though with American Hustle winning best movie at the New York Critics awards earlier this week and Inside Llewyn Davis beating 12 Years a Slave at the Gotham Awards, we probably need to start rethinking our speculation for the major ceremonies.

Don Jon Review

Excellent

With this writing-directing debut, Joseph Gordon-Levitt delivers a remarkably assured comedy-drama while also giving himself a role that's far against his usual type. It's raucously hilarious but also surprisingly involving as it reveals the vulnerabilities of a strutting hard-man. And we're having so much fun that we barely notice that the script's approach to addiction is somewhat simplistic.

The title character is such a dude that his friends call him "the don", in reference to New Jersey gangsters. And Jon (Gordon-Levitt) has his life figured out, with a list of things he cares for: his body, home, car, family, church, friends and girls. In that order. But above everything else, his main obsession is porn. Then while hanging with his friends Bobby and Danny (Brown and Luke) he spots Barbara (Johansson), a perfect "dime" who's worth playing the long game for. Except that she has zero tolerance for pornography, so he has to hide his addiction from her, only confessing to his parish priest and an unexpectedly sympathetic fellow student (Moore) at night school.

Like a character from Jersey Shore, Jon is such a charming loser that we can't help but love him. But despite the macho swagger and gym-honed physique, he's also deeply devoted to his parents (the fabulous Danza and Headly) and happiest when he's cleaning his flat. Gordon-Levitt wouldn't be the first actor you'd think of in this role, but he plays it perfectly, letting us see the little boy behind the tough-guy posturing and making us believe that he's fallen for the charms of this idealised woman (Johansson is simply hysterical).

And neither were the critics when they lauded praise upon this, Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, in which he also stars as the lead alongside Scarlett Johansson. Don Jon is a handsome, cocky young chap with an irresistible charm. His vice: pornography, which comes back to haunt him when he meets a girl strong enough to challenge him.

Scarlett Johansson Has No Problem With Porno - Actress Open Minded When It Comes To Adult Entertainment

Scarlett Johansson Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Scarlett Johansson stars as the romance-loving, porn-weary female lead in actor, writer and director Joseph Gordon-Levitt's first feature presentation Don Jon. Whilst her character in the film is well and truly opposed to the adult entertainment industry, Scarlett herself is actually a little more open minded in her opinions on pornography.

Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett's views on porn differ greatly to her character's

The stunning actress appears as the cover star of the next edition of Marie Claie UK and in her feature interview pornography - a prevalent and key theme from Don Jon - was inevitably one area where the magazine wanted her opinion on. Her opinion might have surprised a few people though, because not only does she think that porn is a viable business venture, but she also believes that it can be "enjoyed" and be "productive" for both men and women.

What You Might Have Missed In The 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' Trailer [Trailer]

Chris Evans Scarlett Johansson Samuel L Jackson Robert Redford

Captain America: The Winter Soldier had its first official trailer go viral this week (24 Oct.) and whilst it gives us a reasonable look at what we can expect from the the return of Chris Evans as the first Avenger, there may have been certain elements that you could have missed in the action-packed preview.

Captain America
The Winter Soldier trailer leaves plenty of questions

We get to see plenty of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Samuel L Jackson returning as Nick Fury. In all it looks as though the film has a strong S.H.I.E.L.D. presence, but this doesn't give us a great indication of what the film might offer. As for the potential bad guys, it looks as though Robert Redford might have a few sinister ideas up his sleeve and the masked badass we see here and there might be his accomplice, but what does it all mean?

Scarlett Johansson Is Esquire's Sexiest, But How's The Acting Career?

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson has been named Esquire's Sexiest Woman Alive for the second time, seven years after her first win.

The actress, 28, joins Mila Kunis, Rihanna, Halle Berry, Minka Kelly, Kate Beckinsale, Charlize Theron and Jessica Biel as Hollywood stars who have scooped the prize since its inception in 2005, then as part of Esquire's Women We Love issues.

In conversation with the magazine about becoming the only woman to win World's Sexiest on two separate occasions, Johansson explained, "You know, I gotta hustle. I'm a twenty-eight-year-old woman in the movie business, right?" she says. "Pretty soon the roles you're offered all become mothers. Then they just sort of stop. I have to hedge against that with work-theater, producing, this thing with Esquire."

Scarlett Johansson Crowned 'Sexiest Woman Alive' In New Poll

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson has been crowned the 'Sexiest Woman Alive' by Esquire magazine in a new poll published in the November issue of the magazine. The is the second time the awe-strikingly beautiful actress has been handed the title by Esquire, her first coming in 2006, which makes her the first person to be awarded the accolade more than once. Who else was it going to be?

The 28-year-old actress, who is currently engaged to former French journalist Romain Dauriac, was also interviewed by the magazine and featured in an extensive photo-shoot in which she showed off her credentials to be crowned 'Sexiest Woman Alive.' During the interview, the actress discussed her love life, the jealousy that sometimes arrises from it and her ever-soaring career.

"I didn't think I was a jealous person," she says in the interview (via USA Today), "until I started dating my current, my one-and-only. I think maybe in the past I didn't have the same kind of investment. Not that I liked my partner less, I just wasn't capable of it or caring that much."

Scarlett Johansson Wins The Internet And Second Esquire "Sexiest Woman Alive" Title

Scarlett Johansson George Clooney Brad Pitt Ryan Reynolds Johnny Depp

If you watch any film with Scarlett Johansson, it is abundantly clear that the lady is actually a talented actress, although all that tends to get overshadowed by her constantly topping of any and every “Sexiest Woman Alive” list around. Case in point: this month’s edition of Esquire, which has named ScarJo as its reigning queen of sex appeal for the second year in a row.

Scarlett Johansson, Don Jon New York Premiere
No one can argue that she doesn't deserve the title.

Of course, it’s not like the actress minds the repeat honor. She joins the likes of Johnny Depp, George Clooney and Brad Pitt in the exclusive two-timers club of Esquire. It is so exclusive, in fact, that Johansson is the first woman to be voted “sexiest” twice. Of course, she had to comment somehow – and she received the title with grace, poise and general awesomness, as well as a bit of brutal honesty. "I'm the only woman to win twice right? You know, I gotta hustle," Johansson tells the magazine. "I'm a 28-year-old woman in the movie business, right? Pretty soon the roles you're offered all become mothers. Then they just sort of stop. I have to hedge against that with work-theater, producing; this thing with Esquire."

Are Scarlett Johansson And Romain Dauriac Engaged?

Scarlett Johansson Ryan Reynolds

Scarlett Johansson recently told an interviewer that she is too caught up in her exciting career to think about settling down and starting a family, but what she didn't say in said interview is that she wasn't considering moving towards having a family-life some time soon. It looks like this might be the case though, as Scarlett has reportedly taken those first few steps towards becoming a family woman, by supposedly getting engaged to her boyfriend Romain Dauriac.

Scarlett Johansson Strips Down In New Alien Movie 'Under The Skin'

Scarlett Johansson flaunts her seductive body in her new movie 'Under the Skin' but this only proves too well that looks are deceiving as the once named 'sexiest women alive' is almost unrecognisable in this disconcerting tale. Yes, you do see her semi naked, but in a never before seen manner.

Fans Walk Out Of Scarlett Johansson's 'Under The Skin,' At Venice Film Festival

Scarlett Johansson Jonathan Glazer

Under the Skin, the third movie from Jonathan Glazer, has severely divided critics at the Venice Film Festival with some calling it astonishing, one of the finest films of the year, and others bemoaning it as silly and throwaway.

Premiering earlier on Tuesday (September 3, 2013), the drama was certainly divisive, though as the boos and heckles rang around the Italian auditorium, some critics were already scribbling hugely positive reviews.

Filmed on location in Glasgow and the Scottish Highlands, Under the Skin stars Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson as an alien in a sleek black wig who feasts on innocent ramblers. As Robbie Collin of The Telegraph writes in his five-star review, "She takes care to pick off men who won't be missed: lonely souls out late at night with no girlfriends or wives to come looking for them. They get into her van, and the next we see of them they are walking into a black room, naked and visibly aroused, tempted forward by Mica Levi's metronomic score and Johansson's impossible body."

Theodore Twombley wasn't exactly having the best time in his life. He never socialised, seldom spoke to his family and he had just been through a distressing marriage separation. That was, until, he met Samantha; a computer operating system designed to fit his every need. With a voice more human than you could imagine from a machine and a witty, caring but slightly nosey personality, Theodore becomes more and more attached to her. However, soon the distinction between man and machine becomes evident when he begins to fall deeply in love with her, despite the fact that she knows little about how human relationships work. With her gradually reciprocating love, Theodore gets caught in a crisis when he is forced to come to terms with the fact that the only person he wants to spend the rest of his life with isn't even a physical entity.

This romantic sci-fi tells the heart-breaking but troubling story of the relationship between human beings and their beloved machines. With a thoroughly talented cast, it has been directed and written by Spike Jonze ('Where the Wild Things Are', 'Being John Malkovich', 'Adaptation.') and it set to feature in cinemas in the US on November 20th 2013.

Dustin Hoffman Gives Cancer The Slip After Being "Surgically Cured"

Dustin Hoffman Scarlett Johansson Robert Downey Jr Sofia Vergara

Actor Dustin Hoffman can now breathe a sigh of relief after the surgery he underwent to treat his cancer was a success. With little confirmed information regarding the nature or type of cancer, Hoffman's fans should simply be relieved that the twice Oscar-winning actor is still alive and well.

Dustin & Lisa Hoffman
Dustin's Wife Lisa Has Supported The Actor Through Cancer.

In a statement reported by People magazine, Hoffman's publicist Jodi Gottlieb confirmed that the 75 year-old is doing well: "It was detected early and he has been surgically cured," she said, "Dustin is feeling great and is in good health." Apparently the actor and director will undergo doctor-recommended preventative treatments to minimise any chance of a recurrence of what was allegedly throat cancer in the future.

George Clooney's 'Odd Film' 'Gravity' To Open Venice Film Festival

George Clooney Sandra Bullock Robert Downey Jr Blake Lively Scarlett Johansson Natalie Portman

George Clooney's new movie Gravity, about two astronauts stranded in space, will open the 70th edition of the Venice Film Festival on August 28, 2013. The 3D movie by acclaimed director Alfonso Cuaron, will hit theaters in the U.S. on October 4, 2013 and is already drumming up anticipation thanks largely to an intriguing teaser trailer.

"It is a very odd film, really," Clooney told USA Today in 2011, the year before Gravity was originally set to be released. "Two people in space. No monsters. It's more like 2001 (A Space Odyssey) than an action film." It's been a long road to get the movie to screen, with Robert Downey Jr originally pencilled in for the male lead before dropping out of the project and opening the door for Clooney.

Producers originally settled on Sandra Bullock for the female lead after reportedly testing French actress Marion Cotillard and mulling over the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively. Natalie Portman was apparently offered the role without a screen test following her Oscar winning performance in Black Swan, though passed on the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Tony Awards Keep Getting Bigger And Better With Each Year

Neil Patrick Harris Scarlett Johansson Tom Hanks

The Tony awards are approaching! This year’s award show, to be held this Sunday at Radio City Music Hall, is sure to hold a lot of surprises and a lot of amazing performances. Starting with the venue itself – the Tony’s return this year to their rightful home in RCMH after two years at the Beacon Theatre. This of course means a bigger venue, a bigger stage and plenty more space for those clever producers to work their magic. Speaking of space, the bigger venue also offers the chance for the castmembers of several beloved to team up for a number of collaborations. And if there’s anything music theatre fans love unconditionally (besides a good umbrella number,) it’s collaborations.

"You'll see different shows interacting with each other," along with musical numbers from proven hits, among them Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, The Lion King and Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, says co-executive producer Ricky Kirshner for USA Today. "In many other worlds, like the music world or TV, everyone is off doing their own thing. But here, they're all friends."

And to add to the hype, audience favorite Neil Patrick Harris returns to host again this year, for what will be his fourth time at the Tonys. Clearly, the producers couldn’t get enough of the witty, multi-talented performer and frankly, who can. Harris, who is a busy father of two, will also be hosting the Emmys later this year. On the occasion, he recently tweeted: Pulling the bi-fecta."But the Tonys have even more to offer this year, especially in the way of nominees. Several Hollywood screen actors have made a more or less successful transition to the stage in recent years and this year’s award show might be honoring some of them, Like Tom Hanks for Nora Ephron's Lucky Guy this Sunday ("Tony loves movie stars when they're game and credible," wrote USA TODAY's Elysa Gardner) and of course, there’s ScarJo. No, sadly the actress got looked over for her part in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, along with the likes of Bette Midler, Alec Baldwin, Jessica Chastain, Katie Holmes and Alan Cumming. However, in the name of sportsmanship, Johansson will take a break from shooting Captain America: Winter Soldier, to stop by and present an award or two. And with such a star-studded cast and producers who have been working for a year to make this happen, it’s almost certain that this year’s Tony Award ceremony will go all out.

Scarlett Johansson Sues French Author Over Unauthorised Use Of Her Name In New Book

Scarlett Johansson

It would seem like a compliment, having a respected French author write about you, but Gregoire Delacourt’s use of the name Scarlett Johansson in his new book is, in fact, a "breach and fraudulent use of personal rights." Or at least that is what the actress claims, according to Yahoo!News. Far from being just the femme fatale we’re acquainted with from her films, Johansson is also no stranger to the courtroom, having sued over nude photos stolen from her hacked phone and fabricated quotes in Cosmopolitan magazine. This time the issue is a bit murkier, however, as Scarlett’s name has only been used to describe a doppelganger of hers – the actual person of Scarlett Johansson isn’t involved at all.

The book in question, 'La première chose qu’on regard' ('The First Thing We Look At'), was published in March. It concerns a mysterious woman who looks just like Johansson, who asks for help at the house of a car mechanic in a village in the Somme, in northern France. In fact, Delacourt thinks the actress should be flattered by what he perceives as a compliment.

“I am also very sad,” he told 'Le Figaro'. “I was hoping that she might send me flowers because this book is, in a way, a declaration of love.” He also added some much more precise compliments: “She is an archetypal beauty of our times, very human with a touching fragility. She is a wonderful, iconic actress.” The main thing for Delacourt, however, is that Johansson seems to have missed the message of his work. La premiere chose qu’on regard is intended as a satire of celebrity culture. As such, it name checks several other celebrities as well – people like Ryan Gosling and Gene Hackman.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's 'Don Jon' Tackles Porn Addiction - But It's Funny [Trailer]

Don JonJoseph Gordon Levitt [L] and Scarlett Johansson [R] In Don Jon

If you'd taken time to read any of the articles about Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut Don Jon, you would have been forgiven for assuming it was an expose of the dark side of porn addiction. It is that, but it's also a comedy and from the looks of the first trailer, a funny one at that.

As well as serving as writer-director, Gordon-Levitt also plays the movie's lead Jon Martello, a young guy who enjoys his swish apartment, working out, driving his car, going to church, socializing and...watching porn. Watching a lot of porn. His subsequent expectations of sexual relationships mean he is unable to build a long-lasting relationship with anyone, despite his friends dubbing him Don Jon for his ability to land any woman.

Don Jon Trailer

Jon Martello enjoys his routine lifestyle which involves working out, maintaining his apartment, driving a flash car, seeing his family, going to church, hanging with his boys, pulling pretty girls and, crucially, watching porn. The expectations he builds watching X-rated internet videos is a massive contribution to the fact that he doesn't have long lasting relationships with anyone, despite his friends nicknaming him Don Jon for his ability to take home a stunning woman whenever he likes. However, after setting eyes on a beautiful blonde at a club, he has more than just a one night stand on his mind and arranges to meet her for a date. When they appear to begin seeing each other regularly (to the delight of his grandchild-less mother) things seem to be going better for him than ever before; that is, until, she catches him enjoying his daily dose of obscene web action. Jon now realises he has a lot of lessons to learn if he wants to be with the woman of his dreams.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt ('Looper', 'Lincoln', 'Inception', 'The Dark Knight Rises') stars in his directorial feature debut 'Don Jon' which also marks his first full-length screenplay. It's a comedy about a seemingly normal New Jersey guy who, though happy as he is at the present, could be slowly destroying his future. It will hit UK cinemas in the Autumn on November 15th 2013.

Scartett Johansson To Take The Director's Seat On Truman Capote Adaptation

Scarlett Johansson

The path from actor to director is a well documented one (with varying degrees of success) and Scarlett Johanson is about to undertake it with an adaptation of Truman Capote's posthumously discovered debut novel, Summer Crossing. The film will tell the story of a 17-year-old Protestant debutante who begins an affair with a Jewish parking-lot attendant while her family vacations in Paris during the summer of 1945. Obviously, a controversial story and one that will be difficult to adapt, but Johansson is confident in the success of the project, which is currently being pitched to potential investors at Cannes.

"Several years ago I began working alongside the Capote estate and writer Tristine Skyler to adapt Summer Crossing, an inspired early work of Truman's which has long captured my heart," said Johansson in a statement. "Being able to bring this story to the screen as my full-length directorial debut is a life dream and deep privilege." Johansson might be taking her cues from celebrities like James Franco, whose trailer for his sophomore directorial work As I Lay Dying, a Faulkner adaptation, recently hit the web. Capote himself was far from proud of Summer Crossing during his lifetime, calling the work “thin, clever, unfelt”. Though the novel definitely works in terms of style - it’s easy to see how Johansson could make a solid film out of it.

Scarlett Johansson, Captain America
The actress will have to juggle her directorial duties with filming for the upcoming 'Avengers' films.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt' Don Jon's Addiction: A Feminist Movie About Porn

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Scarlett Johansson Julianne Moore

Do you remember when Joseph Gordon-Levitt wasn't hot? No? Well, he wasn't. There was a time in the long distant past where he was, for a while, type-cast as a nerd. Remember 3rd Rock from the Sun and 10 Things I Hate About You? He was in those! And he was absolutely great in them, but he was a nerd. And he had long hair. Anyway, now he has written, directed, and starred in his very own movie. A raunchy, morality-driven film called Don Jon's Addiction, in which he plays, not a nerd, a stud.

Don Jon, played by Gordon-Levitt, is a lothario, a rake who can score any girl he wants and spends his entire life focused on 'things' (cars, his body, women...) and porn. "I think it's true that a lot of guys are learning what they think love and sex are supposed to be from the unlimited amount of porn available on the Internet," Levitt said at a press conference for the Sundance Film Festival.  "I wanted to tell a story about love, and in my observation what's always getting in the way of love is how people objectify each other."

Co-starring is Scarlett Johansson, whose character champions the equally problematic traditional notions of Disney romance. She manages to create something that is something of a simulation of 'love', she doesn't sleep with him straight away, and she makes him work for it. Part of what she makes him do in his pursuit of sex is to join a night school. There they meet the moral root of the story; Esther (Julianne Moore), a mature student who smokes pot.

Cat On A Hit Tin Roof Producers Lure In The Public With ‘Scarlett Johansson In Sexy Slip’ Poster

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson is A Serious Actress. We know this, because she has awards on her mantelpiece for her serious acting. She’s a revered screen star and has also been held in high acclaim for her work on the stage, winning a Tony Award in 2012 for her performance in A View From The Bridge. Regardless of this, much of the attention surrounding her new play, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, which opens on January 17, 2013, has focused on the smouldering poster campaign (pubished here by The Daily Mail) that has been used to promote the Broadway play.

‘Scarlett Johansson in a sexy, plunging slip’ you say? Well, let’s just get ourselves down to the theatre then. That, of course, is the response that is required of the public, with the creation of the black and white posters. And by and large, that’s been the response that most media outlets have provided. That’s despite the actress’ recent assertions that the sexuality of her character is over-played. She recently told Associated Press that Maggie’s sexuality “is often overplayed and over-appreciated. It’s such an unimportant part of this story,” she explained during morning rehearsals recently. “I mean, it comes with the circumstance, of course, and the setting and the words – that's already there. There's no need to drape yourself all over the stage and roll around in a satin sheet.”

Fair enough, but if you wouldn’t mind just draping yourself in a sexy slip and posing for these promo shots, so we can get the crowds in… thanks, darling.

Scarlett Johansson 'Hollywood Hacker' Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison

Scarlett Johansson Mila Kunis

The Hollywood hacker who leaked photos of Scarlett Johansson and Mila Kunis is now finding that what he presumably thought was nothing much more than an amusing prank and a brief shot at a quick buck, is something all the more serious.

E! Online reports that Christopher Chaney, a man who had managed to hack into the phones and steal private pictures of more than 50 celebrities, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay $66,179 in restitution. Hope those pictures were worth it, Christopher. During the court case, which was presided over by US district judge S. James Otero, it also emerged that the hacker had disturbingly managed to get into two non-celebrity phones as well, suggesting that this obsession was a little darker than first thought.

Chaney was originally arrested last October in what was dubbed Operation Hackerazzi, part of an FBI investigation into phone hacking scandals. In court he was told that he had a “callous disregard for victims”. He has previously gone on record as apologizing, saying it "was probably one of the worst invasions of privacy someone could experience." However his apologies have gone unnoticed, and he could have had it a lot worse, with wide reports suggesting he could have gone to jail for up to 60 years.

Sundance 2013 Sundance Film Festival To Premier Ashton Kutcher As Steve Jobs And Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Directorial Debut

Ashton Kutcher Scarlett Johansson Julianne Moore

The Premieres section of The Sundance Film festival, which includes 18 films in 2013, historically includes some of the festival's highest-profile projects.

Ashton Kutcher's turn as Steve Jobs in 'Jobs' is one of several projects in the festival's noncompetition section that is headed by a mainstream stars. Festival director John Cooper believes Kutcher's portrayal of the enigmatic Apple founder will resonate with viewers. "Ashton Kutcher's performance I thought was quite remarkable," Cooper said. "It's a very formidable performance by him and it seemed like he really tried to grasp all the nuances of who Steve Jobs was." Since Kutcher's casting in Jobs was revealed in April, interest in the project has steadily grown. The Joshua Michael Stern-directed biopic was written by Matt Whiteley and also features Dermot Mulroney, Josh Gad, Lukas Haas, J.K. Simmons and Matthew Modine.

Other projects feature Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, with all three appearing in Don Jon's Addiction. Shia LaBeouf (The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman) and Amanda Seyfried (Lovelace) also feature. Don Jon's Addiction sees Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut, but the Looper actor also wrote and stars in the film, which is about a self-centered porn-addict attempting to reform his ways. Continuing the rise of music documentaries in the last several years, Foo Fighters' musician Dave Grohl looks at the history of Sound City studios in California, where Grohl's former band Nirvana had recorded their classic 1991 album "Nevermind."

Ambition Fulfilled: Scarlett Johansson Turns Weather Girl On The Today Show

Scarlett Johansson Al Roker

On Tuesday (November 27, 2012), Scarlett Johansson fulfilled a lifelong ambition.

What more could the 28 year-old BAFTA Award-winning actress possibly want out of life, we hear you cry (other than maybe a Golden Globe... or an Oscar). Well, according to Entertainmentwise, the Lost In Translation star has always wanted to be a weather girl and Al Roker’s well-timed absence from The Today show gave her the perfect opportunity to do that.

Johansson was appearing on the daytime show to promote her new movie Hitchcock and jumped at the chance to read the weather for them, as Al Roker was suffering from laryngitis. When asked if she had enough experience to take on the momentous task of filling Roker’s shoes for the day, Scarlett joked “I have a lot of experience with the weather, yes.” She then said that it was “a dream come true,” to do with the weather with Al Roker, before she was hastily corrected: “oh no, you’re doing the weather FOR Al Roker!”
