The musician expressed his dislike for Johansson’s behavior on Facebook
An open letter seems to be the go-to thing to do when a celebrity misbehaves, and that’s what Roger Waters has employed to take Scarlett Johansson to task for going into cohorts with Sodastream, the controversial ‘let’s-make-that-drink-fizzy’ company operating out of Isreal’s West Bank.
Scarlett Johansson has ceased her work with Oxfam over the Sodastream debacle
Waters penned the open letter in response to Johansson’s defence of Sodastream, saying the company is keen on mending relationships. “SodaStream is a company that is not only committed to the environment but to building a bridge to peace between Israel and Palestine, supporting neighbors working alongside each other, receiving equal pay, equal benefits and equal rights,” she said.
“I met Scarlett a year or so ago, I think it was at a Cream reunion concert at MSG. She was then, as I recall, fiercely anti Neocon, passionately disgusted by Blackwater (Dick Cheney's private army in Iraq), you could have been forgiven for thinking that here was a young woman of strength and integrity who believed in truth, human rights, and the law and love,” said Waters on the open Facebook note.
“Scarlett, you are undeniably cute, but if you think Soda Stream is building bridges towards peace you are also undeniably not paying attention,” he added towards the end of the letter. The former Pink Floyd front man isn’t the only one to express disdain with Johansson’s decision to affiliate herself with the company.
Many, including Oxfam – who Johansson used to be a spokesperson for until her Sodastream controversy hit – have denounced the decision. Johansson, 29, starred in an ad for the fizzy drinks maker during ‘Super Bowl XLVIII’ on Sunday night, a spectacle that attracted over 80 million viewers.
