Selena Gomez is tired, but otherwise fine after cancelling the Australian leg of her world tour. At least that’s the line that the 21-year-old’s PR team is sticking to. On Thursday, the Come and Get It singer made the surprise announcement, but she made sure to apologize to her Australian fans.

"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," the singer said in a statement, released by PEOPLE. "But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be.”

The star remains overwhelmingly positive, however and has managed to avoid the stress and various mental problems that too often come with fame at an early age. The tour was only cancelled to allow the Spring Breakers star to spend some time off together with her family.

A source close to the singer says there's nothing to be worried about: "Selena is fine, she's in a great space," the source says. "She's looking forward to spending the holidays with her family." This year, Gomez performed at 55 tour stops across the US and Europe as part of her Stars Dance tour. The tour only ended on November 26 and since then, Selena has also been performing at various events across the US. At this point it sounds like she’s ready to take a much needed break and recover.

"She's been on the road for six months and she's just ready to be normal and at home with her family," the source says. "She's been working nonstop since she was 15 and wants to take a minute to herself."
