Selena Gomez sobbed about her rocky relationship with Justin Bieber at Taylor Swift's birthday party.

The 22-year-old singer was supposed to celebrate her best friend's 25th birthday over the weekend, but spent the whole of her trip to New York feeling misunderstood and angry at the situation with her on/off boyfriend.

A source told Us Weekly magazine: ''She shouted, 'No one understands me! My boyfriend doesn't even understand me.' [Everyone] just stared [at her].''

Other guests who attended the bash at the 'Shake It Off' singer's Tribeca apartment included Jay Z, Beyonce and Justin Timberlake, but Taylor is believed to have taken some time out from the party to offer some dating advice to the 'Slow Down' hitmaker.

An insider revealed: ''[Taylor] wants her to at least try taking a year off dating. She thinks she should date herself for a while, take the time to get to know herself and appreciate herself.

''But she's not going to force it, she's trying to lead by example this time, instead of forcing her ideas down Selena's throat, she realises she can be kind of pushy and she's working on that.''

The blonde beauty - who recently released her fifth studio album '1989' - is also believed to have been trying to persuade Selena to ditch her home in California in favour of the Big Apple.

Selena previously admitted: ''[Taylor] wants to kidnap me. She's been begging me every time we get on the phone, because it's been a really good thing for her.

''You know, we've been friends for seven years and she really feels like she kind of stepped into her own and became a woman there, and she's like, 'Alright, your turn!'''

Last month the star performed an emotional rendition of teary ballad 'The Heart Wants What It Wants' - which is believed to have been inspired by her relationship with the 'Boyfriend' hitmaker - at the American Music Awards, sparking suggestions the beauty is still not over the hunk.
