Selena Gomez cancelled dates for Australia and Asia on her 'Stars Dance' tour for early in 2014 nearly one week ago.

Originally it was reported the 21 year-old wanted to take some time off for herself and be with her family but rumours have surfaced that Gomez is suffering from Lupus.

According to Popdust, sources close to Gomez told the website that she was diagnosed with the disease a couple of years ago and has suffered multiple "flares" recently that cause, facial swelling, extreme fatigue, headaches and joint pain.

"Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her Lupus is really catching up with her right now," one source says.

"She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life."

No official comment on the new reports has been made from Gomez's camp but originally she released a statement explaining her cancelling several tour dates.

"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," she said.

Adding, "But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."

Lupus is an autoimmune disease, meaning the immune system attacks the body's cells and tissues, causing inflammation and tissue damage.

The 'Come & Get It' singer axed 13 shows from her Asia & Australia leg of her tour.
