Gomez took a three month career break back in August, and revealed how she's made changes in her life in a new interview.
Comeback kid Selena Gomez has opened up about some changes she’s made in her life after she took a self-imposed three month break from stardom and social media earlier this year.
The 24 year old actress and singer took part in Thrive Global’s questionnaire about what has given her strength as she recovered from burnout and exhaustion, exacerbated by her ongoing battle with the condition lupus, between August and November.
Selena Gomez returned to the spotlight after three months away
Gomez was asked when the last time she felt burned out was, and she got immediately to the point. “Three months ago, before I took a hiatus to take care of myself,” she replied. She also apparently took stock of her life and relationships, reorganising the people she surrounds herself with on a day-to-day basis, and that included breaking off with social media.
“I recently took 90 days off. During that time I did not have my cellphone,” she explained. “It was the most refreshing, calming, rejuvenating feeling. Now I rarely pick up my phone, and only limited people have access to me.”

In an achievement that just goes to show you don’t always need to be online to get people to pay attention to you, Gomez was completely silent on Instagram in all that time and still managed to maintain her massive following, which is still the largest in the world.
Other tips she shared were to “drink water, stretch and take a deep breath” in the morning, and she fills her free time with “self-affirmations in cooking or napping”.
At the end of November, Gomez made her public comeback at the American Music Awards.
“Thank you guys so much,” Gomez said while holding back tears as she collected her first ever AMA. “In 2014, this stage was actually the first time that I was authentically 100% honest with all of you. I think it's safe to say most of you know my life whether I liked it or not. And I had to stop. Because I had everything. And I was absolutely broken inside. I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”
