Selena Gomez has opened up about the difficulties of dating when you're an international popstar. Gomez, who famously dated Justin Bieber and has also been linked to Orlando Bloom, told Australian Vogue that she’s now looking for a more “low-key” man, but unfortunately those kind of guys are always “terrified of her”.

"For a while my private life was the most talked about thing," Gomez explained. "Nobody really knows everything and they can only assume. You want to do what you love but all this other stuff overshadows it so it makes it a little harder for people to take me seriously.”

Thanks to her high profile, Gomez admitted that finding love can be tricky. “I think people would think it's kind of dumb [to date me]," she continued. "Nobody would want to throw themselves into that situation where it was so heightened publicly, like, why would they?”

“The guys that do have the confidence to hit on me are not necessarily my type, but they think they are because I’m a pop star, I sing songs, do movies, I like to feel sexy and confident on stage,” she added. “I’d be so stoked with a writer or producer or actor who is low-key, but those kind of guys are terrified of me!”

Early on in her career Gomez was probably most known for her relationship with Justin Bieber and the singer admits its taken time for the media to put her work before her private life. “I figured it’s just temporary,” she said. “I feel like that fortunately and unfortunately it’s where my life is at the moment and I have to accept it.”

The 24-year-old also revealed how she fought with her label to release ‘Good For You’ as the first single from album Revival, rather than ‘Same Old Love’. ”I was so adamant that I didn't want that to be my story," she said.

"'Same Old Love' is so obvious in what it's about, it's a cycle of a very vicious relationship. Even though that is such a huge narrative of my life, I felt confident with 'Good For You' [being the first single], and then it could be like, I'm pissed and this is exhausting.' I think any girl would feel that.”
